My girlfriend Caitlin, who some of you have met at various camps, has been nominated for an Observer Community Award in the category of Biggest Contribution to the Arts in the Community.

Five years ago she watched Jools Holland and his Big Band perform in Portsmouth. That night she decided she wanted to learn the Sax. In just 5 years she has mastered the instrument and is studying for her Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Grade 8, the highest level of atainment on the award system. Caitlin plays Soprano, Alto and Baritone Saxophones, illustrating her commitment to the instrument and remarkable level of achievement in such a short space of time.
Caitlin regularly performs with the Chichester Youth Concert Orchestra in which she has the sole responsibility of leading the Saxophone section. On Saturday mornings she leads the Chichester Youth Sax Ensemble at the Chichester Music Centre, for which she also arranges music. She also plays in the West Sussex County Youth Orchestra.
In her free time Caitlin has grouped together three fellow saxophonists to form a group, Sax in the City, who aim to bring the Saxophone to new audiances across the community. Caitlin selected saxophonists from different backgrounds who share a mutual love of the instrument. Caitlin eminates enthusiasm for her instrument which is infecuious to those around her.
In between her A level studies, Caitlin has recently taken the group to perform voluntarily for Chichester Hospital Radio and West Dean Primary School. The hospital received excellent feedback from inpatients who thouroughly enjoyed the music provided by Caitlin and her young quartet.
