At least 3 members here have some Solexes...
Toomany2cv's, grifftravel and me.

I have a 1964 Dutch build Solex Oto (1700 or 2200 in France). Mine is build by Van der Heem, a Dutch industrial company located in The Hague.
Have it since june this year an i rebuilt the engine.
It runs, but the fuelpump is not working how it should be, but that will get fixed sooner or later.
Before it's roadlegal it needs an checkup at the RDW (dutch DVLA). If its approved it will get a license plate and I can use is legally ;)

My girlfriend has a belgium build Solex 3800 build in 1969. Rebuild the engine from this one also, but didn't test it, but it will run if I put some petrol in it...
This one also needs a checkup at the RDW for a license plate.

This one's a 1962 2200, bought from an antique shop specialising in French furniture etc, near Marlow in the UK. They used to have a 2cv and an H-van, signwritten with the business name. We went in there one day, and there was a slightly tatty and unloved Slowlex sitting in the yard at the back - the guy had bought it at a Brocante whilst in France on a buying trip, ridden it around over there for a bit, brought it back - and got bored of it. I gave it a new front tyre, new fuel pump diaphragm, and cleaned the tank and carb out (full of rusty flakes and varnish!). The only problem the MOT man had was the brakes - normal bike-style rim brakes both ends on a 2200 - they had to be able to lock the wheel and "stall" the test rollers, and couldn't. So adjust them up, until they do. Great. Then wind the adjustment back to get it off the rollers again... It's got a UK registration, but hasn't really been used - I've not found insurance at a sensible price.

The other one's a late '60s 3800, rescued from languishing in a yard. Again, tatty, and the engine is currently in bits - it'd probably been run on neat petrol at some stage, so had a horrible death rattle. The chain had seized solid, and snapped when I tried to move it. The tyres are shagged. I have no idea what's inside the rear drum brake. It might get finished at some stage...

Here is mine in full flight [not me riding] 1968 3800 model. Bought on French Ebay in 2005 for 75 Euros. In its original colour, red. Still runs when I put fuel in it. Great fun.

In France you can ride these in your own commune without a crash hat [though you must carry a crash hat in case you venture outside the boundary]

Perhaps it doesn't hurt so much when you near home. One of these will fit in the boot of a 2CV

Here we can ride without a helmet too.
Here we have 2 different licence plates:
a yellow with black numbers, these are for mopeds with a max speed of 45 km/h (speedlimiter). On this one you must wear a helmet.

For mopeds with a max speed of 25km/h (also speedlimiter) you will get a blue plate with white numbers.
A Solex, even with it's topspeed of 30-35 km/h, gets a blue plate, so no helmet needed. You can wear one.

And on a Solex you can only wear something like this:
