Three grand buys you a TextO kit to make a car look like that.

Found this little Ex Posty AZU (single seat in the front and yellow interior) today on our way back from Toulouse. Went into the garage to see how much he wanted for it but it is there to be restored. Found out this big Renault garage (pretty modern, just built) also does 2CV restorations and there was a beautiful 1959 2CV in there (not sure on model but the colour was exactly what we want on our little fourgonnette)

Mixed up with the super cool IES Super America:

See 2cvGB News April edition (I think) I did a feature on them.

Strictly they're not Citroens. 2cvs (3cvs) were built by a Citroen/Argentinian joint venture firm until 1982, until the Falklands war. After that. Citroen had to be seen to withdraw from Argentina (don't know why, the French supplied all the aircraft used by the Argentinians during the war...) but production continued without French consent.

The chassis was changed to a tubular one with wishbone suspension and the engines were duplicated, but remained identical apart from the carb which was sourced locally and managed to get 35hp from the engine. Lights are a copy of renault. Electronic ignition as standard 'normal' gear change. Funky stuff.

8-)

Why do you say that? There looks some good engineeering going on - would much rather buy from there than CRAP from China.

A metal Mehari? http://savoiacars.com/automoviles_mehari_in.html Looks a bit like a Tonka toy in the pix, but then the original doesn't look like other cars, does it?

Perhaps it could have been as much about the then dictatorship and it's dodgy goings on as the falklands war. Then again, it doesn't stop everyone dealing with dodgy countries these days :|

B'kos I work with their 2cv parts every day and they are shit. Only decent stuff from they is their chassis made on original Citroen tools. The rest is sub standard parts. Maybe the eastern countries can reproduce some better stuff but I doubt it. Luckily the flow of shit parts from South America is slowly coming to an end.
