 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
Went to see this today. For me, this is almost the perfect car: mechanically sound, slightly tatty, but not rotten. Has new sills and floors, new brake system, ECAS supercoil, new 123 ignition, original chassis in great condition. Like I say, it's cosmetically far from perfect, but it's not shabby, especially given that it's a 40 year old. Road-tax exempt too. Sadly, it's available at the wrong time for me. Too many other things to do, and I really ought to get the van sorted out before I start blowing my money on any other A-series... much as I'd like to!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251854764063?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (Bonnet looks like it's out of whack, but it's not, I just hadn't closed it after having a delve inside.) The seller's description is spot-on. It has a really nice engine. Sounded very mellow! Drove it for a few miles and it was lovely. The seller is an A-series fan. Has had loads of 2CVs, and still has one. The inside's a bit grubby, and it has a lining that looks like a tart's boudoir. I quite liked it, but the roof lining sagged down a bit and my head was pressed against it (I'm 6'1"-ish). Let me know if you want any more info, or call Colin on 07798 687186 or 01746 218921. Car is in Highley, near Bridgnorth, Shropshire. MOT till Oct 15. Offer £2,500 cash and ready to drive away and he'll take it. Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
If anybody is considering having a flutter on this 'new old stock' tyre... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125R15-Michelin-Radial-X-Tyre-New-Old-Stock-Citroen-2CV-Beetle-/261794627687?pt=UK_Cars_Tyres_RL&hash=item3cf42d0067...bear in mind that the date code on it (260>) makes it the best part of 25 years old.

Probably outlast a brand new Michelin X on the road.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
HFS, that was close!! Woke up early this morning (having dreamt about it!) and decided what the heck I'll put in a bid of £1501. With 20 minutes to go I was sweating cobs!! £1500 for a car I didn't need was insane!
Imagine my relief when I checked at 8.45pm to see that I'd been beaten! The last thing I should be doing is blowing that kind of money on an old A-series.
Thing is though, I'm actually rather disappointed. It was really nice, and would have made a lovely evening project (parked out front, me mincing around on spring evenings tidying it up cosmetically, cocktail in hand etc). It was nice to drive, and £1700 for that is a bloody steal. Way better value than a 2CV at that price, I'd say.
I feel very confused right now. Didn't want it but at the same time really really did and feel very jealous of the guy who's bought it.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
That's how I ended up with the Guzzi - "Wow, 300 notes for a Guzzi! Bargin!!" Clicks 'bid'. 5 days later no other bugger had bid anything for it... 'CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE WON THIS AUCTION'. Cock. And it's in Devon (nothing wrong with Devon, it's just a long way away). And I need a van to pick it up. Sigh. And it's still sat in the shed 7 years on - but it now runs, sounds lovely....
