He's so mature, that Victor. No fun at all - but he is correct.

Why do you need a lockable cap for the MOT?

Anyone else think that there seem to be more hammers (3?) and mole grips /pliers in evidence than any other tools... richardmorris wrote: well he's putting it together using a Haynes manual so I wouldn't value it quite as highly!

richardmorris wrote: Why do you need a lockable cap for the MOT? Well, I had a situation a few years ago where a 2CV-friendly tester told me that he was obliged to fail my 2CV IF I put it in for test with a fuel cap that did not have the potential to be locked. My car had a flexible plastic cap, with no locking mechanism. Mr Tester reached into an old box, pulled out a "lockable" cap and put it onto the car. "Problem solved," he winked. Even though there were no keys with this cap, the cap was at least lockable... so it complied with the wording of the test. Daft, eh? This was 2010. Maybe things have changed, but I haven't heard that they have.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
The fiat's gone through the last 18 MOTs without a lockable cap. I know temporary plastic ones will fail, but surely something fitted originally shouldn't? Can't comment on the 2CV's case as it's always had a locking one.
Oh, here we are - thought I had a copy somewhere...
7.2 Fuel System 7.2 - page 1 Information This inspection applies to all petrol, diesel and gas powered vehicles. It may be necessary to open the luggage compartment to carry out a full inspection of the fuel system. If access cannot be gained to the fuel cap because it is locked and the key is not readily available or because it cannot be opened for some other reason see item 2 of the Introduction to this Manual. On gas powered vehicles, the presence of a leak must be confirmed by the use of a leak detection product conforming to BS EN 14291-2004. Leak detection products must be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Method of Inspection 1.Check the security of all fuel system components. 2.Check fuel pipes and hoses for chafing and damage. 3.Check for leaks in the fuel system both with and without the engine running. 4.Check fuel tank cap /filler neck sealing device for presence, positive fit and condition of sealing washer and flange.
Reason for Rejection 1.A fuel system component insecure 2.A fuel pipe or hose excessively chafed or damaged. 3.A leak in any part of the fuel system. 4.A fuel tank cap/filler neck sealing device: a.missing b.does not fasten/close securely:by a positive means, and such that pressure is not maintained on the sealing arrangement c.sealing washer torn, deteriorated or missing, or a mounting flange/sealing method defective such that the leakage of fuel is possible.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
Never had a locking cap on my 2cv, never had a problem, I assume, however that a temporary emergency cap is not up to the job.

Maybe things have changed, but I haven't heard that they have. I have had a lockable fuel cap on the van since the day I bought it (July 2001) - but I've never had a key for it! Still, it looks the part I would argue that " secure" means " not loose" rather than physically lockable - the original silver filler caps on the 2CV (or even the radiator cap) are secure as they twist and click into place.

 Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
Selling a two into one exhaust part that replaces the crossbox. It's on eBay and you'll find it easily if you enter 2cv exhaust. Everything's in the description, has been used but is solid as car is garaged. Almost £200 new on ecas (that's where I got it originally & have borrowed the description for it too - improving midrange etc). Good luck bidding if you fancy it. fritz
