That might be considerably easier - both in postage and in payment in beer...

With the reel mounted where? Or static?

Static, ideally, although I'm certain I've done at least one with inertia reels (using the mounting in a 'modern' sill) without them fouling the seat frames.

<thinks> Wouldn't the rear mount, where the reel normally is, be further back than the front of the van box?

Putting the reel on the front mount, presumably?

BTW, Russ... Got a pair of B-pillar seatbelt mounts and a set of inertia-reel belts in that shed of yours?

No, the reel sits in front of the B-post like it always does - Deurrrgh.... The 'other' end goes in the captive which you've welded into the crossmember behind the cab, with a spreader plate. Hopefully. Or you might have pop-riveted it...

Got plenty of B-post mounts if you're still stuck. Not sure about seat belts though - you might actually have to buy some new ones. That outfit in Staffs. does 'em, but you could always get some best praaaahce...

<scratches head>
Clearly. Duh. I shall look at Sparky when I get it out of the lockup later, for the Ace Cafe.

You're clearly well into the French state of mind, m'sieur...

Woah, thank you al ever so much for the huge response and mass-debate, we clearly all get excited over vans :D

Having looked at the poster Limes posted and read, re-read and read again this thread, I'm presuming there's basically 5 2cv van types (7 including the low roof 400 and the Acad...)

the AU introduced in 1951 (ripple bonnet)
the AZ introduced in 1960 with 'today's' bonnet but rippled back
the AZU 250 introduced in April 63 (short wheel base) and,
the AK 350 introduced the same year but with a longer wheel base and the 602 from the Ami 6.
From 1964 onwards both the AZU and the AK were produced with front hinged doors. In 1974 the AZU got the bigger engine
In 1974 the AKS 400 was introduced (and the low roof 400?)
In 1978 the Acadiane was introduced.

Am I getting there or have you all got that achey feeling and you just want to yell NO MORE :!:

Now to finding one...... :?

I'd have said there were just three basic types - the rest is age-related detail, just as with the cars.

AU/AZU/250 - 375/425 three-stud/425 four-stud/435, short & low, early 50s to late 70s
AK350 - 602 M4/602 M28, long & low, 60s only
AKS400 - 602 M28 & drums, usually long & high but some low-roof, 70s only

plus
Acad - 602 M28 & disks, long & high, some VERY high, Dyane front, late 70s to mid 80s.

Start splitting the 250s about based on relatively minor detail, and for consistency you ought to split 350s into AK (M4) and AK B (M28), and possibly further into suicide/normal door, old/new box, banjo/normal brake etc. It's all stuff that just sort of happened as part of the normal 2cv evolution (albeit slightly later) - same as 375 AU/425 AZU etc.

The difference between a '60 AZU and a '61 AZU is really just the bonnet panel, f'rinstance - the 375 had already died, and the four-stud 425 was a way off. The big mechanical changes didn't coincide with much in the way of visible difference.

Sam,
as a footnote to Adrian's breakdown, maybe worth mentioning that Acadianes are the only vans (or any A series) with a longer 'wheelbase'.

Strictly speaking, shouldn't it be 'axle spacing' for A series cars, since the 'wheelbase' will vary depending on the ride height set or the load being carried? :?

ken.

If you had any sense, you wouldn't buy an AZU250, an AK350 or an AKS400. You wouldn't even buy an Acadiane. You'd buy one of these:
