Took the engine out, and put the spare one in. I know usually when we say "there's no compression on one cylinder" we're speaking metaphorically, but this engine really does have no compression on one side. None at all. I'm amazed I've been able to start it.

Put Nippy the sidewinder on Car and Classic....going to miss it if it sells but there comes a time when you just can't be arsed with servicing 3 A series in the pissing rain when you haven't got a lock up or room in the garage.

Have used it to get to work yesterday and today, but it'll stay in the garage tomorrow with an early start and late finish.

Swapped the inner driveshaft, and washed the engine bay with a bit of diesel from the previous time the gaiter split. Still waiting for the new starter.

RT,
it would be quite something if it's worse than the one pictured below, which was the result of the owner's friend setting the timing 'by ear'.
That involves twiddling the points box round until the engine sounded at its best, if I understand this approach correctly...

Amazing that it passed a couple of MOT tests and the poor thing had even tried to fix itself by filling the empty ring groove with carbon.

Nothing. It sat watching whilst 'Luigski' our Panda got the full works. Clayed, cut, polished and then waxed (twice) including the door shuts

Car did not move from drive today :( but spend some time setting the SAT NAV for SPA trip, also because no heater now treated the windows inside with anti mist to help with condensation.

Blimey. I wouldn't have thought it'd be quite as bad as that, but you never know. I'll be stripping it soon for a rebuild, and (if I'm organised enough) I'll photograph everything for an article for the 2cvgb mag, so ... watch this space.
New engine all connected up today, and taken out for a test run. It's so nice to have something which fires up instantly on both cylinders! Compression os 150psi one side and 120psi on the other.

Took a door on the Acadiane almot completely to bits in order to replace a tiny broken spring in the door lock mechanism. I think the same job on a 2cv or Dyane would have been much easier!
