I learnt that actually, it wasn't 'just' the brake fluid warning light after all.

I learnt exactly when and how my lackadaisical attitude towards vehicle maintenance will bite me in the arse.

Tomorrow I will learn about rebuilding engines.

Sorry, but  that's quite funny. I once had an engine sieze on me at 75 on the M54, all because I kept thinking "I must replace the engine oil pressure warning light switch". In the end I ran the thing completely dry and it wasn't long before the crank welded itself up. What happened to yours?

Been using Fred for delivering bits of Ami to hide away in the workshop at work , and just out of interest the front seat on an Ami fits in the back of a 2cv for transportation purposes. Also used him as a booster for starting a Sweeper machine at work, popped to Screwfix for some Plumbing bits too.

Workmate decided he wanted a go this evening , Sat in him, Spied the Gearstick... and got out again.
I have decided that the best antitheft thing on an A Series is the gearstick, If you are not conversed with one you aint going anywhere fast

the handbrake also has a lock button on it - pull on the handbrake and turn the grey thumb knob 90* and hey presto the thieves are thwarted or they'll burn the handbrake pads if by some freak of chance the handbrake worked in the first place.

Loaded up with rubbish for the tip and tried not to park near the scrap metal bin lol. Later, drove to g/f house with roof half open, an hours trip, then we went to local monthly meeting. This morning, drove back in the pissing rain and amazingly only two leaks manifested themselves!

Changed the brake master cylinder (old one had small leak to inside of car). Not my favourite job. Any tips on getting plastic fluid holder onto the seals (tandam).

Mate of mine was adamant he was going to help me shift the Ami round the back last weekend.
He was also adamant that even if the brakes failed it was drivable, "Least i can use the handbrake to stop it safely"...I just wandered off thinking Good luck with that

you can use a drum brake handbrake to stop it, because it's basically a purely mechanical linkage to the front brakes. Disc handbrakes rely on those piddling little tuppeny bit pads, but drummers are better.

Actually, I haven't learnt a thing. Just done it again and I think that engine might be finished now.

It's usually just a case of lubricating the spigots and seals with LHM, then pushing the reservoir straight down into place.
However, I've heard rumours that there are repro reservoirs from Cassis nowadays on which the spacing of the spigots is incorrect. :(

The replacement master cylinder I had to install at Snetterton this year was very poor, 2mm too wide on the shoulder which should fit neatly into the pedal bracket, so there was no chance of the locating sleeves fitting as they should.
Luckily, Sean had brought an angle grinder in the toolkit...
