Post Re: Motorways
I love it when I give a lift to somebody who's never been in a 2cv, and they ask what the noise is when hoofing round a corner. My reply :-"Oh, that's only the front mud-flap scraping the road." They're response:-"SH/T!!!!!" or something similar

 This subject could do with its own thread now
But my favourite is the "guess when the traffic lights are gonna change" game .... ;)
You wait until youre approaching a set of red lights [on a dual carriageway] ....now most of the "lemmings" around here stay in the left lane .....so the game is ;) ....
....You try judge when the lights are gonna change to green, ease off the throttle good and early so that youre just rolling with a gap between yourself and the stationary car in front.
Most of the "lemmings" in their euroboxes are patiently waiting, most of them with their cars out of gear in the left lane.
When you know the lights are gonna change ... floor the gas pedal :D ....before you know it,you've left a good half dozen dozy lemmings still waiting to move off .....and the guy in front of you moves over, cos he does'nt want the @rs* end of his shiny eurobox stuffing in with what he considers to be some mad b*st*rd in a 2CV.
It works nine times outa ten ....

T. ;)

Took the Acadiane on a return trip from Skipton to Reading via Bedford, handled it superbly, never skipped a beat, and averaged 39mpg (is that good/expected???), carrying a drum kit and amps etc. The worry about overtaking was fine, as I hardly did any, and it was actually more relaxing than in a modern eurobox, as you can't rush and overtake so you sit there, enjoy the view and the tunes and chill out. Biggest problem: the section of clockwise M25 that you join when you leave the M4 heading north, just one great big hill to struggle up, it didn't like it.

Didn't see any other a-series though, was quite shocked and a bit sad, last time my family had one the roads were full of them. Even on a Sunday going through the Chilterns, I was hoping to see the odd D*lly or Charleston, but alas none. :(

8-) Thats why I prefer driving my 2CV [to my C4Coupe] ..... the 2CV does'nt go fast enough to overtake anything on the motoway.
So [IMHO] you might as well just turn the stereo up,sit back, enjoy the "tunes" and the drive.
Driving a 2CV fast on a motorway is hard work .....if you take things easy its one of the most relaxing, enjoyable ways of travelling I can think of.

I guess 39mpg isabout right for a van .....I'd be lookin' to get about 43/45 outa my 2CV Spesh.

Sorry Terry, but I have to disagree! I never found driving it fast anywhere hardwork. Hills and other people might have slowed us down but it was still pretty much always going as fast as was possible at all times!

Post Re: Motorways
Just got back from an evening in Bristol. On the way home on M5 in Gloucestershire there was an old LR Defender sat in the middle lane with nothing else around. Well I gradually caught it up and as I was only very slightly quicker, and faster vehicles were by this point in lane 3, I undertook the Landie just to prove a point. Bloody muppet didn't take the point though, it sat in the middle lane till I came off my exit slip-road some 30/40miles later  Hate those middle lane hoggers
