There is quite a long on-slip onto three lanes of A12 at Mark's Tey, so you'd think there would be plenty of room for manoeuvring, though there's also the possibility of plenty of distractions, both inside and outside of the car - it will be interesting to hear the outcome of this one
I have a friend in Colchester, so I'll ask him to keep an ear out...

Post Re: The O/T thread!
I had a letter for the 2cv mag with words to the effect of:

Quote:
we drove around France and covered just over 900 miles with no problems and not a drop of oil used amongst us.

My issue is - why does that seem to surprise the writer? If the owner can't drive 1k miles without expecting something to go wrong they need their expectations adjusting. And if they thought the journey would go tits up why did they go?
Why should anything go wrong? If they were driving through Afghanistan fair enough, but they weren't it was France. And why is it relevant that the cars didn't use any oil? Why would they? I'm sure they didn't need new tyres or to change a chassis either...

I don't understand :(

Does seem strange. I did over half that distance at the weekend without even thinking about it. And I never used any oil either. Maybe I should write to the mag ... :)

I have to laugh at Brits over here in France who whilst admiring my 2CV, are stunned to discover I drove from Stafforshire and across France to the Charente again this year! Silly arses

I don't think people relise how indestructible they are. I used to to a 14ft boat with mine. People would asked in shock if it was ok/dangerous/slow.

No... its's a car, it can handle a 250kg boat at 50mph quite nicely!

Years ago, Classic & Sportscar magazine used to run a regular feature called "My Classic and I" which was "about people who use their classics". One of them, I remember, was about a bloke who used a 1930s Lagonda as his everyday motor. Full marks for style, but I remember him saying how he was baffled by the number of people who asked how he managed without "essentials" such as central locking, ABS and interior lights. It's obviously the same people who are surprised that a 2cv will actually go further than the local shops without exploding or something.

Don't forget - the only thing most people know about 2CVs is the garbage that Jasper Carrot and Jeremy Clarkson told them...
