They're the old cardan joint (?) type which didn't have outer boots and I believe that UK racers used to run without the central "sliding joint" boots once upon a time.

2cv crossers don't either Jon, it's just the amount of driveshaft that's not in the inner splined section, seems a bit risky, and those double cardigan joints aren't the best are they?

The Slough we've just featured and the other car the fella owns have these, apparently the owners manual suggests putting your foot on the clutch when coung round tight bends, so as not to break them!

yeah, I've got that one too! And somewhere I've got an Ami6 brochure with an M4 engine in a similar scheme.
Or it might be an Amisuper engine.
