Post Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
I couldn't give a toss to be honest! I used to have a D*lly, loved it to (lots of little) bits and had great fun with it. If people call any old 2CV a D*lly, it's probably because most of their experience of them was when every new 2CV *was* branded as a D*lly. At least they're showing a bit of an interest, and not calling it a shit heap!

Don't really see how they made 2CVs a bit of a joke? They were a (relatively successful, AFAIK) attempt to prolong the life of a failing car. They also seem to have stuck with pretty much the same marketing themes as they had since the early 70s!

Mind you, a Cote d'Azur is probably as close as you can get to a Dyane-shaped D*lly, I guess!

btw, just got told that the Yugoslavians tended to call the 2CV Spacek, which means "little freak". How rude.

  ... yes we all call it Spaček. We dont know who named 2cv with this name first. But it is Slovenian word (where I came from) and yes it means something like little freak. That happened in late 50 s when first 2cv was sold in our country. It was so strange looking little car that somebody come out with that nick name. And after that that name become something normal for that car all around ex Yugoslavia. In that time when someone cames to store an wanted to buy a 2cv didnt said "I want to buy 2cv..." , he (or she) said "I want to buy Spaček."

Even today if you come in Slovenia and your 2cv break down , you can go to a pub and ask people if somebody know any Spaček guy around with Spaček parts. If you say ... 2cv? They will not know what you mean . Same think if you go ti Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro. All around people know what is Spaček and have good memories on that car.

And in the case of 2cv it is not a rude name for it. It means something nice. ;)

TBO. I think this D*lly hatred thing is largely received opinion, after all it's been twenty years or so since someone could turn up in a new one! (Tho' I can think of someone with a Red and Wthite D*lly with every bit of shiney bling who maybe thought most of our cars weren't wearing more than the mandatory 'Flare'!(bonus points if you get the ref!))

I love to see tatty, loved, mackled and driven ... D*lly s and drummers ... what leaves me cold are shiney cars with obvious money throw at them (as the proof you love the marque?) to be brought out once in a blue moon!..... It's not that 'Speicial' and it's not that type of 'Club' ! :P

Post Re: Leboncoin/eBay finds
just to clarify, my car was one of those shiny never used cars,
i keep it shiny, as its a shame to buy a shiny car then trash it, might as well preserve it best i can if you get what i mean ;) which is why i spend a considerable amount of my wages on the car,

does that mean i can keep mine shiny?
i dont clean it that often honest ;) (3 months ago last clean?? ;) )

i never understood the D*lly hatred, i dont hate them (i own one for gods sakes!) i was trying to explain it annoys me when 2cv's are seen as dollys, its a bit like calling a vaccum cleaner a hoover (which is a brand of vacum cleaner) and the vacumn cleaner has adopted the name of hoover, in some peoples minds i think its a similar case with the 2cv, i dont know why but small details like that annoy me, im grump old git at the age of 17
what a life ahead of me

They're generally silly colour schemes with a completely silly name.

See also:

Clown cars,

Noddy and Big ears,

Explaining to male friends that your car's called 'D*lly'.

A standard special doesn't come with a silly colour scheme does it?

how does a few stickers and different colour wings make it a noddy car though??
yer noddys car has differeny colour wings to the body, but he has no silly stickers!

and some people may like the "silly" colour scheme, its our opinion to whether we choose to like it or not or think its silly or not!!! ;)
