Do you think this might want a head gasket?

Is that off your van?

Don't jump the gun, the oil cooler tht the filter screws onto is prone to allowing oil and water cross contamination....... :ugeek:

Nah it's off the fork lift. It's always had a bit of mayo in the rocker box but we put that down to it being gas powered and that it's never run for long enough to get warm. I managed to convince my employers it wouldn't hurt to give it an oil change and all that came out of the sump was about one litre of this gunk. It lasted about a week before it wouldn't start and wouldn't turn over, I took the plugs out and one pot was full of water. It's meant I haven't had to do much work this week though. I changed the head gasket and now the starter motor brushes have worn out and no amount of cleaning them and bending things in the top of the motor can make it work properly for long enough to start it until the brushes/commutater burn out. So until the new starter turns up on Monday I won't know if I've fixed the head gasket or whether the head, which I had to weld as it was eroded away above the gasket, is scrap. I love my job.

My boss still hasn't done an oil change after 50 k in the caddy van

Checked the oil the other day, was off dip stick
1.5 l later it was at the correct level!!

Also hard to get into gear. Gearbox oil change may help?

great OT post!

Think the electric welding process was developed to weld armour plate or at least it sped up the development - the metallurgy dictated that stainless electrodes were used to arc weld field repairs hence the shiny weld. factory welding used shielding gas to protect the integrity of the weld.

youve discoverd my guilty secret! dont get me started on German tanks :geek:

ah last and heaviest of the box hull pre war designs , then they met the radical t34 with the sloping glacis plate and the Christie suspension, and had to start again with the panther and the Tiger II using complex engines and epicyclic drive that conserved all the engines energy - sloping armour and 88mLl71 armament that could knock out anything about a mile before their opposition could even get close enough to get a hit on them.

bloody Germans making things properly for decades.
