Not entirely off topic, but we don't have a '2cv engines in planes' thread.
I found a couple of threads at 'homebuiltplanes.com' that may be of interest, the first is a guy designing his own engine using parts of a 2cv, he's intending to convert the heads to ohc, and use crankcase pressure as a source of forced induction.

The second is far less ambitious.

I'm going to America for 3 months of fun. I'm a bit confused if we can go for the full 90 days without a Visa, I'm pretty sure we can travel there under the visa waiver programme but my friends seem to think we need one? Anyone got experience with this?

Joe, rather than taking anyone's word for it, make sure you read the visa/passport info carefully yourself. It's your responsibility! If in doubt, give them a call.

Whatever you do, don't overstay. Friend of mine did, and he ended up being held after getting his details checked on account of a minor traffic violation. He was dumped, without charge, in a jail on the Mexican border for 3 months. He lost his motorbike and all his belongings and, despite having a valid air ticket out, his only way out was (under orders from his jailers) to buy a first class ticket to London. He was delivered onto the plane in handcuffs, and was placed into a seat in economy class - so guess who pocketed the difference?! The cuffs were removed only when the plane doors were ready to be shut. Everybody on the plane treated him with maximum respect!

On the upside, he has been able to dine out on this story ever since, and has impressed a good number of ladies, who have mistaken this story for evidence of him being a lovable rogue with pure rock n roll coursing through his veins. Oh, and he said that the inmates in the jail were great. It was just the warders who were complete bastards.

Good grief,
sounds as though it's not just the UK-US extradition 'arrangement' which needs some attention.

My son went to US at the end of last year and although he was intending to stay only 90 days, as you are, my Uncle ( BA Pilot) advised him to get some sort of paperwork as with out it they can just flat refuse entry for any sort of spurious reasons. According to him they are THE most petty of border controll. Sean spent 3 hours at the whim of some of the customs because he was a young man travelling alone ...with a casio watch - go figure!
Canadians welcomed him with open arms ( and apologised for the 'mercans) as did the Kiwis and Ausies.

Advice served my son well as when his 90 days were up in US he was more than happy to be able to deferr his next leg of the journey and continue having fun in San Fran and on to Boulder
as a father i just don't want to know what was going on.

Casio watch = Al Qaida terrorist, obviously!!

There was a case recently of a guy who tweeted that he was going to "destroy" Los Angeles (ie paint the town red) when he got there. Poor sod got deported upon arrival!

Thanks for that Sean, when you say paperwork, do you mean a visa? or a general travel plan with some dates or stops?

Think it was a Visa but Uncle Ed was doing his dinger that Sean was planning to travel to The States without anything but his ticket.
you have still got to "apply" for a visa waiver so its really just a "Visa Light" if you definitely have to be back for College or work then get the 90 day waiver, if there is a chance you will have fun and want to stay on then get a proper visa
