Hmm. Not sure about that - a 2cv's tank range (200 miles on a good day) is hardly anything special... 500+ miles was easily possible out of my XM, even at thoroughly illegal speeds - and 750 miles at 2cv speed. And that was a turbo petrol automatic...

No, you're right toomany - just reminded of the tortoise and hare when passed by a fast car at speed on a quiet motorway, only for him to emerge alongside from a fuel stop further down the road. Have had 2CVs in the past with extra tanks, though, for trips through Europe.

A bit OT, but:

Now I've just found a retro styled car I like! even the story about the company behind it is interesting, and yes, even though it's powered by hippy nonsense, I'd like one!

Where did you put an extra tank? I've toyed with this idea for a while now.

Easy on a van...

But the Citroen book, Ici Commence l'Aventure, suggests putting a DS tank in place of the back seat.

I love that! Isn't that what that hideous Mini-clubman remake should look like? Loving the baby fins!

It's described by the owner as "absolutely sufficient". Sounds like 2cv engineering to me! Perhaps they DO have a target audience...

Put my name down.

(Oh, and I think my brain is powered by hippy nonsense - nothing wrong with that.)

This for me is the best area in the car market at the moment. You haven't got them in the UK but Dacia Logans and now the Sandero are doing really well over here. Sales went up something like 80-85% over this year with people watching the pennies. They're basic, practical cars with few optional extras. (not quite like the original Traband for which the wheels and steering wheels were extras!)
And if nothing else, it's helping out companies in eastern Europe. We should be seeing Lada soon as Renault have bought them.

"Citroen still seem to be denying all knowledge of that "funny car some blokes made for a farmer" though..."
Seems like it at times when they want to push the techno/comfort side, but at the moment in France the Traction, 2CV and DS are all mentioned in the ad.

The problems with making cars these days is the level of safety features and aerodynamics which add so much weight and completely change how the car looks. The 407 would never have had that gaping mouth had there not been regulations on pedestrian safety.

But what I really hate are all the pointless electronics they add to get an edge on the competition. Electric steering wheel adjustment, electronic seat position memory! And all the hands free stuff. Soon hands free phone kits will drive the car so you can use your mobile.
How they hell are they going to be in 10 years? You'll never be able to get all that fixed.

And how annoying it is that all you can read about now in car mags is how they are designed according to the economy and emissions.

Those C1s do rather fly actually. I had one in my boot for miles at 140+km/h the other day.

So a 2CV please! Oh, and one of those electric Elise-bodied Dodges. One must do ones bit for the Ozone layer.
