Aren't I better off spending that time, effort and money doing something I like? Why shouldn't I join another club that better suits my needs? Indeed and a fair point Russ. I just sometimes worry that there is some (and once again, I'm not aiming this comment at anyone in particular) "Anti-2CVGB" feeling going on. And, whilst I appreciate that it's not for everyone, that is an unhealthy thing to really allow given my earlier points..........

I'll make it clear that I'm not anti 2cvgb nor am i trying to discourage people from joining. I just think people shouldn't be made to feel they have to join.

Okay, I'll put it another (possibly more diplomatic) way, if people don't want to join, then that's their perogative-I'm certainly not trying to stand on any kind of moral high ground here.
If they do want to join, then that can only be a good thing which will, in the long term I believe, help the cars and members alike.

Go back to post one and read again. Not sure anyone on here has said you have to join, its a choice. I just feel people are scanky if they don't. Link from my local club to this forum http://forum2pattes.forumactif.com/has 9,500 plus members with 106 on line just at this moment, wow

After all, we're all members of it......... I wasn't being entirely serious. I do think though that car clubs are a hangover from an earlier age. It used to be that the club magazine arrived and you eagerly scanned it for elusive bits; the internet has changed all that. If you want to talk to like minded people, join a forum. I can't remember the last time I bought something from SPOG and I can't see that changing any time soon. Twenty years ago car clubs were a useful resource, nowadays I'm not entirely convinced they still do anything especially useful. I'm not anti 2CVGB at all, but I am disinterested in it or for that matter any other "traditional" car club. I suspect that is true for a lot of people, and apathy is harder for a club to fix than people being actively dissatisfied with how it is run.

To be fair, I'm not awfully sure that "name calling" or antagonisation is really going to help this debate........

The problem is that the utterly necessary work that FBHVC & FIVA do is just not nearly weel enough known. They _could not_ do it without "traditional" clubs being affiliated to them. As a result, the bureaucrats in Westminster & Brussels would have nobody reminding them that not all cars are modern blandmobiles, and would they please not legislate as if they were. Here in the UK, events couldn't be run - since there wouldn't be the public liability insurance and there wouldn't be the MSA permits. Internationally, there wouldn't be the ACI liaising with Citroen, who wouldn't provide the financial support and guarantees that enable events like Salbris to be organised.
