Re: Importing and registering a French Car
Cheers Neil. I think I may go about the registration process the hard way as I'd rather like to keep the original paperwork from France. J'aime un peu d'histoire avec un voiture. Just practising my (piss poor) French!

Re: Importing and registering a French Car
We had to give them the original for the Acad, they wouldn't accept a copy. It was over three years ago itcould have changed.

Didn't even try to do otherwise - and we didn't get it back. Everything else, yes. But not that. But I made sure I kept a colour copy beforehand... Oh, and top tip, from one who <cough> knows. Make sure you SIGN THE FORM. Don't rely on the person at the counter checking the paperwork to notice...

Just practising my (piss poor) French! You can get a dating letter from the club, and get it registered without its documents. However it is a pain as they then often want to inspect. If it has an actual CG they'll just register it on an age related plate. If they don't inspect no one will look at the kmh speedo etc....

They aren't looking for condition or Construction & Use compliance. For an import over 10yo, an MOT is all that's needed for that side.

As far as I know any age of car needs to display its speed in mph or both mph and kmh and the headlights need to dip the correct way. The rules were changed a few years ago when lots of non compliant Smart cars were brought in .
