I don't mind D*lly's. I agree, the name isn't very "cool". But who cares about the name. Actually I think it's strange that so many Brits say D*lly instead of 2CV. In my country everybody knows the name of a 2CV and uses the name 2CV. Not D*lly or CV2 or any strange like that.

But the paint is just as any other paint. It's a personal matter. And the D*lly paint seem to be liked by people outside the "community", so in that matter it was a good job from Citroën's point of view. Getting new buyers. Selling car's is what it is all about.

But enough chitchat. Let's have som more pictures ;)

This is my D*lly :) French built, from 1987. It's a very nice car to drive, but I like the look of my yellow. But I've heard from the ladies, that they like the Dolly-look. And that must count in favor of the D*lly ;)

It's even a bit unusual, as the shell and it's interior is from a German 2CV6 Club. Therefor it has adjustable backrest and Club-interior. Maybe the only D*lly in Norway with Club-spec. ;)

Well, Russell's old Dyane was named Ken, so why not? ;) What's happened to Ken, Russ? Was a cracking good laff at the French Nat. in 07. :D


Despite being in such exquisite condition, Ken failed to attract any buyers and after six months of being unable to give it away I took the engine out of it and managed to offload it onto a fella who forklifted it onto a manure heap where I believe most of it remains today. I understood that parts of it lie beneath a Belgian post office 250.

When I bought my present red ['87 built] 2CV Special [new] in 1988,the salesman offered me a D*lly for the same price [they were about £100+ dearer than the specials at the time] .....I refused and stuck out that I wanted a Special {I got the impression that Specials were rare at the time ....in fact IIRC ....there was about a dozen wollies and only a couple of Specials in the dealers compound}
My reasons for refusing the D*lly was .....
[a] That silly chrome strip on the sill [yet another rust trap]
[b] I did'nt want to be "touching up" stonechips with two colours of aerosol.....it's far easier with one.
[c] .... Oh yeah ;) .....and I had a set of hub caps off an old Dyane ... :roll:

It rather irritates me now that a certain [non Citroen driving] lady friend always refers { affectionately :oops: } to my red spesh as "your little D*lly" :twisted:

Apparantly, Citroen dealers were encouraged to swap wings around to create D*lly Mixtures. Wether this is true or not I don't know, could be urban legend!

I read somewhere that the waiting lists for Dollys were really long?

I bought a Dyane new in '75 .....I learned where they rotted .....and vowed not to make the same mistakes with the 2CV.
I'd have bought a Dyane even in 1988 if I could have got a new one.

'D*lly' has unfortunate connotations in English because of being a bit 'girly' but if you look into the etymology a little (even in English!) It seems to me it's actually a little cart, chariot or trailer for carrying stuff around on/in (hence 'camera D*lly'!) which seems appropriate to me! :mrgreen: :P

Dolliesque in all senses! ;)

I don't know about there being a long waiting list for wollies at that time (maybe there was for all 2cv types in the final year or so). When my Dad wanted to 'trade up' from his X reg yellow Club in 1987, he went to the dealers and they offered him the red and white D*lly that they had in the showroom. However, there was a 6 month old green and white one for sale in 2CVGB News, and it was local, and only had 1,900 miles on the clock. Naturally it was cheaper than a brand new one, and it was as good as new, so he sold the yellow one privately and bought the green and white one.

He's still got it (and here's a recent pic, with the red and white I sold a few weeks ago), but he's regretted swapping the yellow one for it ever since! I love it, but it's mainly due to nostalgia - we went to the French and Swiss World Meetings in it, plus numerous other family trips/holidays/2cv camps. I also wish he'd kept the much cooler Club though.
