Post Re: The O/T thread!
I don't know why I haven't posted this sooner, I've been going on about it quite a lot most places;

Passed my test! :D

Had my very first drive of dad's 2cv, taking it to school in the morning. I got in early to find a parking place, then spent about 30 minutes just sitting there grinning! It got lots of admiration, and was even described as 'cool' by someone. 8-)

Come lunchtime we rolled back the hood, piled in and drove down to Bruton for ice-creams! My passengers were very understanding, but it must have been a bit unnerving to hear the occasional "Oops, the indicators have fallen off", "Whoops, that's not right, is that fourth? Lets try again... second? Oh well, it seems to like it" and "Cor, you can really feel the steering tugging around these corners, woops, steady on!" :lol:

Exams over, 2cv-legal, and a summer of my van to look forward to. All is well with the world :D

Anybody here know if I can upload/download/sideload (whatever it is) an Android App. to let me use my phone's sat-nav? Orange want an extra £5 a month (£7-£8 for europe wide) to enable sat-nav. :o :x :evil: Can't for the life of me understand why, when my in-car Garmin is free :?

If you've already got one, why would you want one to waster the battery on your phone?

Smaller and lighter to use when walking and it has Google Earth.

don't be tempted to pay orange the £5 a month - it's rubbish! The maps, speech, and all the route finding gubbins are all stored on a central server, rather than on the phone itself. This means that to find you a route, the phone has to work out where it is from the gps, connect to the orange server, which will work out a route, download the route and maps, etc, and *then* it will tell you where to go. If you make a mistake, it goes through the whole lot again, which is a bit annoying. Even more annoying, is that it will take you into the middle of nowhere, where you'll lose your signal, and then realise it can't do anything without its connection....

My phone's a Nokia, and has got Nokia's own OviMaps on it, which seems to be excellent, and has all the maps etc. stored on the phone. You can even download free maps for anywhere in the world! I'm not sure whether there's a similar alternative for Android, but it's worth bearing in mind that the maps are *big*, so it will make a big dent in your phone's memory.

If anybody knows of a taxed and tested Xantia diesel (preferably an estate) with a towbar within that price range within a reasonable distance of Birmingham, let me know please......
