On a completely different OT note, does anyone know where Old Nail's blog has gone? I last checked it, oh, a few weeks ago and found the cove starting to restore an old Kawasaki bike. Clicked on there today for an update - and it's gorn... :(

Thanks, James! :D I guess he's just closed down his 'old' one - the 2CV and bike effort.

Looks like he's had a bit of grief from Google over his 'Femme Femme Femme' section - classical nudes

How good is F1 at the moment! Anyone who didn't manage to sit through the 2 hour interval missed a hell of a second half.

It wasn't *that* good though, was it? Really?

In winning Jenson Button drove from 21st place to 1st, passing every car in the race and taking the lead less than a lap from the finish. He also collided with two cars, both of whom retired, suffered one puncture, one drive through penalty and 5 pit stops. I think that qualifies as a pretty damn impressive piece of motor sport. :P

I didn't think it was worth the wait though, I just feel you can see better racing elsewhere.

I enjoyed it, but I don't like the opening rear wing device thing. It seems to me that the car in front, which can't open the wing and thereby gain the extra speed available to the car behind, is operating under a different set of rules. I like to see racing cars overtake each other, but not if it's just a foregone conclusion which happens every lap in the same place as decided by the FIA.

I agree the DRS rear wing can seem a bit contrived, but so far it seems to have had a positive effect on the racing. If 2 cars are completely equal, but the one behind is given an advantage by overtaking using the DRS, then on the following lap the overtaken car will then be given the same advantage. If a car is genuinely faster, then after overtaking it has a lap to pull out a gap of over a second. Had DRS not been available on sunday then Button may well have been stuck mid pack, despite being potentially several seconds a lap quicker than the leaders.
You also have to accept that F1 as a sport is contrived, it's governed by so many rules that even the teams need them clarifying mid race, most of which are designed to try and level the playing field but still allow the spectacle of plenty of overtaking, not an easy task.

Perhaps I was a bit fed up with waiting for it. I think button did brilliantly, it was certainly good to watch. He is a bit of a showman which I like. A few things irked me though, that prick Hamilton should bugger off to something more his style like superstox or lightening rods, ie; something you expect to see contact in, he's not the legend he seems to think he is and unless he grows up a bit and takes responsibility for his actions I'm not interested in watching him. He's definitely in the shadow of button and I don't think he can cope with that, no matter how many pussycat dolls he's porking.

I think the red flags were a joke, they are meant to be the pinnacle of driving talent and with what they earn I expect a bit of bravery not sacking it off because it's raining. The DRS and KERS are just gimmicks, I understand why they have them but it seems to be replacing talent when it comes to overtaking. I'd rather watch two perfectly matched cars with drivers using their skill and cunning to overtake. I realise what that'd mean for the sport and why it's impractical, but that's racing, I don't think using toys to help cars overtake makes better racing.

I'd like to see them all compete in a one make race, that'd show who was really the better driver and racing would be superb.
