Post Re: The O/T thread!
Thanks. Didn't get to Oulton because I'd arranged with O-N to pick up this box of bits this afternoon so thanks to him too... Just need to get insurance sorted now...Hopefully for tomorrow or early next week either as named driver on a policy I get me parents to set up or with FJ/PJ but their lines are closed till Monday so... we will see :)

If you can afford it, get your own policy. insurance companies are pretty clued up on the old named driver trick these days. if you get them put onto the policy as named drivers that might bring it down anyway. Also, in the long run you will save more with no claims. I remember when i passed, itching to drive, i think i was insured within the hour!

Well done James.

I passed first time (just thought I'd get that in there). When I was learning the instructor used to pick me up from home, and end the lessons there too, However after I passed he said that he would drive me back home, as there was no need for me to drive his car again, I'm not quite sure what he meant by that.

Having passed, I was too poor for my own car or insurance, and the parents weren't interested in paying for it, so it was over a year before I drove again.

I've heard several people say that insurance companies are quite tight about the being a named driver thing. But if someone lives with their parents, and the car's registered in their dad's name, I don't see where an insurance company could find any positive proof that you drove the car more than your dad. Although looking at your car James, I think people would immediately have their suspicions.

That's the biggie though Joe. Insurance companies have been saying they don't make any money on motor policies since the 1960's. The result is that they now take a grand or two from a young man for driving the least powerful vehicle he can find.

Too many whiplash claimants I think...

i also passed first time after 6 weeks, 11 lessons

incidently joolz the reason they dont let you drive after passing ( i didnt drive instructors car after passing) is because apparently you will be a bit hyped up / on a high so its safer not to drive
i waited a week before getting insured
i didnt get classic car insurence i found tesco car insurence the cheapest with an online quite with club card, james have you done your pass plus? i dont know with classic car insurence if it makes a difference but it does on normal policys, and its a good expereince anyway as you as a learner wont of driven on motorways obviously, which i think incidently is redicoulous, motorways are a nightmare, why dont they teach you to drive on them too?!

Motorways are a piece of piss! WOT, outside lane, r/h indicator on and main beam on. That's all you need to know.
