 Re: The O/T thread! Although interestingly, the National Archive reckons that, with inflation taken into account, it would be worth £3.17 today. Still a while since you could buy a gallon of petrol for that though!

So I was just over 17 at the time and driving a rather beat up Morris 1000. So here is the trivia:-
I was paying 6/2d that's 6 shillings and two old pence for a gallon of petrol [4.56 litres].
6 shilling and 2 pence is equivalent to 32p.
So that's 32p for a gallon

Was on holiday in Cornwall in 1971. A crowd of venture scouts and ranger guides. 11 drinks for less than a pound. Mind you I was only earning about 12 quid a week.

Re: The O/T thread! Apparently, if beer/lager had gone up in line with inflation, it'll now cost around £6 a pint, not £2.60 (or whatever it is atm). The inflated prices of soft drinks in pubs keeps the harder stuff at the more affordable price.

I lost a spoof for a round of bieres-grandes a few years ago and ended up paying 40 Euros for 5 pints!
