As I have said before, its all about supply and demand. It also sounds like you need a holiday. ;)

It doesn't matter whether it's about supply and demand, the day of the week or the colour of my pants, I'm not really questioning WHY, I know why things are the way they are, I'm questioning what it means to me and how I should deal with it to suit my own needs.

Do nothing except wait. Prices will come down (but they'll probably go up first).

On the other hand, if they don't, find some other way to mess about with cheap cars: I parked up next to a totally ratted Seat Inca (yes, a Seat Inca!) the other day and thought to myself, "hmm, maybe there is an alternative." It rocked!

Then again, maybe a visit to the former Eastern-bloc would turn up some interesting opportunities... it'd be a fun holiday too.

Then again-again, why not just learn to hold your 2CVs rather than dumping them? You're growing up: time to learn to stick with the Duck you love, rather than being so promiscuous and dumping them every five minutes just because a prettier one comes along, you old tart! ;)

Russell, with your talents with welding, mechanics etc you could make money out of real restoration. Can't see what your problem would be with that.

Sounds like your head's got to where I am Russ. Most people who found their cars had gone up in value would be pleased, but I think it's spoiled things.

There's nothing I'd like better than to keep on 2cv-ing but it's over, or what I used to think of as '2cv-ing' is at any rate. That post you did before with the photo of a Mehari full of smiling young lads summed it up pretty well. A-series were cheap fun for the masses. That Mehari (if it exists) is probably sat under a microfibre cover in a heated garage now, and that makes a nonesense of the original concept. Can't stop the world turning though.

There are still lots of 2cv shitboxes out there if you have the time, inclination, and strength of character to pay £800.00 for something worth £50, then spend three grand plus to do it up again. And when you're done you get the pleasure of driving something that should have been cheap in the first place.

There's always the people and the cameraderie I suppose, but many of the new type of owners aren't like us. Fewer original faces exist while more rather well off owners are coming in, the type that object to people having fun at meetings.

With expensive cars will come the hoarding of s/h parts by dealers too, because they will also be deemed 'valuable' . My circumstances are different than yours which has made me jump ship sooner. If I were you I'd keep the yellow one and spares aplenty for another five years or so, it can't hurt. Just enjoy your red car while you can, cash it in at the top (which isn't yet) and when the bubble bursts people will wonder how anyone once actually paid more for a 2cv than a decent Mercedes.

I know we've banged on about it here for a while now, but the current high prices we're seeing for 2cvs have got me thinking. I will *never* be able to afford another 2cv.

Indeed people keep banging on about this but I don't really see it. Take this one for instance. Fair enough it is pink, but it has a galvanised chassis and 5 months tax and 5 months MOT. Yours for 810 quid; it is hardly Bugatti money. It is in a sensible place and someone flagged it up on the forum.

The prices are creeping up, but they're hardly at a level where the cars are out of reach. The real issue is that even the newest ones are getting to an age that they're so dog rough that they need serious time spending on them before they are pleasant to be around, but that is a whole different problem.

Buying a Polos or Fiesta with tax and MOT is going to cost £400 I'd have thought.

Read about how we're getting shafted on tax, and who funds the Tories.

I'm beginning to think that fretting over 2CV prices will soon be the last of our worries.

Hope I won't offend you with this, but here goes...

Russ and O/N, you really should be selling your cars for the best you can get for them. It's not "ripping people off" it's "selling at the going rate".

Like it or not they are fetching over £1000 now (and thats for a scruffy one) nice ones comparable to yours even more...

I appreciate what you're saying about "the good old days when 2cving was cheap motoring" and you're right, it is a bit strange the value's shot up when nothing about the car has really changed (I don't think rarity is that much of a factor, there are stacks around for a car last made new 20 years ago), but to lose out yourselves because you don't think the market is how it should be??? Well, thats up to you, but...

...what did Barbra Striesand say about keeping her nose to spite her face?

You two have invested so much in your cars, you'd be fools not to get the most you can back.

And if it makes you feel any better about it, I bet if you add up the costs of parts and labour that went into them you'd probably still be making a loss.

I agree Louise. I've come round to that way of thinking. In general I used to consider 2cv buyers to be fellow enthusiasts, even if I hadn't met them. Or at least, (with two notable exceptions) they were thought to be decent enough folk. Now I've no idea who is buying into these things.

Smiffy I know a lot about politics. I wish I didn't. It's one of those things where the more you learn the less you like it, and the more you know the less you sleep. Most folks are as oblivious to the dangers as are sheep in a field, but learning more only makes you a sheep that knows the wolves are coming.

They tell you not to mention Politics and religion in conversation as they are the most contentious issues. What most people don't know is that the two are inextricably linked. Most of what happens in government has it's roots in the theological rather than ideological, you just don't see the links - and it isn't your theology.

If you want to delve into nightmares that will make everything look small then look into the Bilderberg Group or NWO. They try to call this stuff conspiracy theory in order to stifle investigation, just like they encouraged belief in UFO's to aid testing covert military hardware. It's real alright, and many parliamentarians know it.
