Drugs in literature: a brief history.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge... opium
Thomas De Quincey... laudanum
Charles Baudelaire... hashish
Robert Louis Stevenson... cocaine
Aldous Huxley... mescaline
Jack Kerouac... benzedrine
William Burroughs... heroin
Stephen King... cocaine
Hunter S Thompson... everything

Plays havoc with one's use of apostrophes, amongst other things.

As a post script, the Mazda wouldn't start yesterday after a week of sitting idle, but the 2cv fired up first time and that's been parked outside since October completely untouched.

And the fire brigade crashed into the Mazda making them the second lot to damage it in a week after the bin man kicked a wing mirror off it. It's not even in the way of anything. Magic.

Collected "Dasher" from Richard Daltons this am - done a good job on it and have fettled it nicely through the MOT - interestingly, I had asked them to look at ride height as was all over the place - high at front, low at rear, and it appears that the triangular end plates on the suspension arms had been swapped from once side to the other - explains why it was particularly weird round roundabouts when I took it up there a month ago.....

Re-proofed the roof with Fabsil.Wired up the heated rear window and replaced the broken alternator belt. While I was at it I decided to advance the timing a tad,its a bit flat.

took the front mat and carpet out to soak up a cup of spilled coffee. Had the roof off in the sun though to go to the farmer's market in ascot (how middle class does that sound ! ).

We took a drive out to a local(ish) monthly classic car meet south of Chichester

.........friendly bunch. Then spent the afternoon in Chi, including an interesting walk around the perimeter Roman Walls, something we'd not done before. The early morning and mid afternoon drives there and back over the Downs, with the Winter sun at its' best, were absolutley delightful. Kept the roof closed, though lol!

Took the new one out to Ludlow and back today - goes really nicely and pulls well but does whiff a bit of oil on the overrun - I guess it needs new rings so will be buying new pistons and barrels from Roy and fingers crossed the heads haven't eroded.....

Mark350 and I took both 2CVs out yesterday, around Unst, the first time I'd felt happy to get my 2CV out of the garage in over two weeks. It needed a jump start off Hugo, Mark's van, but ran nicely. We're currently waiting to get the 10.45 ferry to Yell and the connecting ferry to Shetland at 11.30.. We're going to Eashaness in the van.
