Re: 3CVs & the uber cool Southern Hemisphere
I can't do that in my 2cv, so why shouldn't I have a Renault 4?
Having met the Renault 4 guys in St-Mihiel and had a look round thier cars, I really want one. I don't have the space for the collection of french scrap that I already have, but if I did I'd be off out to France to get me a 4 for sure. They have no less of the 70's French charm that attracts me to a 2cv.
Still, none of this answers the question originaly posed:
Why didn't Citroen change the name to 3CV when they gave it the 602?
Thinking about it, the Ami and AK350 van are all refered to as 3CV in the literature I have for them, but the actual saloon cars are still refered to as a 2CV.
I think it's odd, because as Citroen had developed a new 602cc engine from the 435, you'd have thought they would try and market it as a 'new improved' A-type, instead of clinging onto a name that surely, in France, meant it was claiming to be less powerful than it was. If, for example, Renault, with thier Clio 172 (172bhp), actually called it a Clio 125 (still with 172bhp), it'd be underselling the car, and people wouldn't like it when they found it was a higher tax band than they'd thought. It seems odd that a car maker would cling onto a name assosciated with an earlier, slower model. The south american model names make far greater sense to me.
