Less than a tank of petrol? Yes.

The last two vehicles I filled up were £85 and £110 respectively. 'Less than a tank of petrol' isn't a very good measure of cost nowadays. Soon, a night of top class hookers, a mountain of class A narcotics and a cellar full of the finest champers will soon cost 'Less than a tank of petrol', and I'd rather have that than be a 2CVGB member. Although I think that's also a fairly bad comparison.

I was thinking in terms of a 2cv's tank...

I'm not, due to a small hitch in the 2CVGB offices we didn't renew it last year and dad hasn't sorted it out again yet

Likewise. Telling me to do something I don't enjoy and telling me I am obliged to pay for it too isn't going to make me do it. It's going to make me want to do it less. Making it something I want to do, and making me feel I want to put money into it is far more likely to have results when it comes to making me part with my cash. Of course, if the club doesn't know why you feel that way, then they won't change.

That is very true and nor would I ever try to force people, but [as I always do] have a strong opinion about it. As I said earlier, all 2CV owners in the UK benefit indirectly from 2CVGB even if they don't realise it. Just seems fair if we all made some contribution to keep it going.

Not that its short of money, but that's another issue.

I'm with Grouch Marx; I don't care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members.
;)

I'm still very keen to know what the rest of the worlds 2cv clubs offer at what price.

Like I said, as a member, you have a much better chance of achieving that result, no?

It's a bit like abstaining from voting and then moaning about the government!

Agreed, nobody has the right to tell anyone to join the club but, I do feel harping on about how shit it is and then not feeling inclined to do anything about it, whether it be joining, contributing or otherwise is, well, almost contradictory!

And, I can assure you all this is not a dig at any one person just my own feelings.

In fact, I felt so guilty, I've just gone and renewed my CCC membership which I allowed to lapse because I didn't feel I was getting anything out of it!

Is a forum like this not a club of sorts then? After all, we're all members of it......... ;)

I understand your point Jon, but I'm not paying into it in in the hope that I can spend all my spare time and effort making it something I want to join. Aren't I better off spending that time, effort and money doing something I like? Why shouldn't I join another club that better suits my needs?

My local French club [web site here http://www.lesdeucharentes.com/] is about 30 Euros a year. They organise days out which involve lots of food and wine and driving home pissed. They are affiliated to the National Association of clubs of France but are fiercely independent as are all the local clubs of France.

They pay a levy to the National Association which is always a source of some grumbling. It does all seem to be a bit fragmented here however they do put on the French National, some good [indeed some very good] but equally some rather bad.

We have an organisation over here called the FFVE http://www.ffve.org/ which is a bit like the UK Federation. I will find out at which level the 2CV clubs are affiliated to that.
