How can we best break this to you?

In a cute-off between you and that car, Paul...

Well, obviously I'd need photographic evidence of *both* to determine that...

That photo is great - I remember my Dad collecting me from infant school in his shiny new 104 in about 1976 (? - P reg). It was nearly that colour, as well. Happy days! One thing is bugging me though - I'm absolutely sure it wasn't a hatchback. Did they make saloons?

No, only hatches.

Couldn't have been a 304?

I'm pretty sure you're correct Mrs Lobster.
I think they looked just the same as the hatch but had a little boot lid instead.

Are you thinking of the Mk1 Astra? Most were hatches, some pikey-spec had a bootlid, but the same body sides. There's one around us.

Another hateful [but reliable] car. Fitted a clutch in one once.... what a job, all back to front, very strange.

Hi
Yes I believe the early ones were saloons a bit like the Ami 8. Looked like it should have a hatch but wasn't. Now an Ami 8 hatchback....what an idea.

The pug 104 saloons are rare as hens teeth now though as most were traded in for a hatch when they came out. Oddly the one thing that did seem to change was headlights. The saloon which was bigger than the coupe had smaller lights, then they had the same huge lights, then they both changed again in the 80's for something in between. The Pug 104 coupe looked mental with lights similar in size to the 504, so you thought it was a massive car heading towards you then this little thing zips past lol.

God Paul you really are a winge aren't you. I take it from this that you've never done a timing chain on a DS or front pipes on a GS then.

Winge , winge, you have not heard it when I get going. Yup done front and Y pipe on a GS. The guy who designed that set up wants his hands cutting off.
