The opening scene of the Italian job was filmed on the Col du Grand Saint-Bernard I believe?

Chris, look at the rear door window, he still wears his Stelvio sticker.

Lovely pic's, I adore alpine scenery. I've seen on other photo's that some of those sharp bends have quite an adverse camber to them also, that must make things interesting. I'll aim to visit that road next summer while we're over there, and perhaps visit the Grossglockner alpine highway the year after.

Up is actually a lot more fun than down.

A gang of us did the Stelvio Pass, plus 3 other Alpine passes en route to the ICCCR in Rome 2008.

A 2cv was with us, but I think he'd cooked his brakes before Stelvio - so take spare brake fluid, and make sure the disc vents are fitted!!

We went in our DSuper5, with a one-year old in the back! DS managed it fine - albeit with very smelly brakes on the way down - needed new pads when we got back to the UK, oh yeh, I blew I hole in the flexi pipe too which I had to fix with an empty orangina can until we got to the rally - must have been the high revs and low gear driving on the way up. We went up the Swiss side, which is bloody steep, and bloody narrow, and came down the Italian side which is a lovely wide road with big sweeping bends. I'd have preferred to have gone up the Italian side, and reckon you'd manage that in 2nd and 3rd gears in a deuche.

The cafe at the top is a proper refuge! The espresso cured my wobbly legs. Although it was bloody windy and rainy when we did it - and that was mid-August. Needed jumpers and coats on the top of the mountain, but it was 40 degrees in Bergamo the next day!

Would definitely do it again, pics were on the Citroen Classics site. Did some other passes on the way back into France, which were also amazing. I'd better get an a-series, then I can join you.

Anyone got a 4-seater van for sale?

Andy
