Jeez! I'm afraid Footman James don't insure under 25s anymore, and I presume from your premium you must be very young, so you'll have to wait a few years if you want classic cover with them!

im under 25, and i am insured with FJ and not at an extortionate amount.

Really? I rang them just last week to see about putting a friend on my policy and they said they couldn't, as she's under 25. The answer you get from FJ seems to vary depending on who happens to answer your call!

thats very strange. I had no problems calling up and getting a quote. make sure you ask for a classic car policy first though. as i think there are a few different ways in which they give you a quote. but there is no reason why (that i can think of) other than you didnt ask for a classic car policy.

Except that my policy is a classic car policy and they still said no!

However, I took out my policy with them when I was 23 (I think), so they must have changed their terms in recent times - perhaps you also took out your policy before they did this?

Odd! I don't think their left hand always knows what the right's doing...

I'd check my small print if I were you though.

yeh, im going to do that for sure. i have a feeling i read something somewhere about not being insured under 25, unless you are the policy holder. i think they just want to take your money anyway.

Just come off the phone to FJ about my renewal on the 1st July. They are quoting £196, so I thought I'd ask why it's so much for a 38yr(almost 39 :( )with a full licence for over 20yrs and no claims in 17yrs, when some of you lot on here are getting it so much cheaper. The guy couldn't really give me an answer, other than it's the cheapest quote for me, and they can't go any cheaper :x Not happy to be honest, but I guess it's better the devil I know, and even at that price it's cheaper than having to pay RAC for European breakdown cover, every time I go abroad(at least £100 a trip). I guess it's the £6000 agreed value that does it.....<sigh>

The premium goes up a band if the car was made more recently than sometime in the mid-80s. I enquired about this as I was surprised that my premium went up £30 or £40 when I added an E reg 2cv to my policy last autumn. However, a B reg one made no difference (my other cars are all pre-1983).
