Also used in Blighty, to describe something in very good condition. Most fascinating, thanks  (One of my most favourite books, is Bill Bryson's Mother Tongue, about the evolution of the English language  )

Yep! The man is a genius and I can forgive him being American, coz he lives in Blighty (Wymondham, Norfolk).

ahhhhh now, i have a copy of the Aphrodite's Child 1970 prog-rock classic 666 - double concept album....on the inside gatefold, there's a very, very similar picture of an unfortunate 2CV crashing through a wall....almost certainly by the same artist i'm rubbish at downloading pictures but i'll try and find it hmm
