Post Re: What did you do with your A Series today?
Our first "issue" free trip today with the 2CV Club Bearn. Met up with them in Pau and we had 25 cars taking the 50 Km journey out into the middle of nowhere for a 3 hour lunch fuelled with a lot of wine, I mean A LOT. I realised how powerful  these little 2CV cars are as I struggled to keep up specially on the hills. But the little van did us proud and I hit 80 Km/hr on the flat.

then after lunch, guess what, a trip to a vineyard for wine tasting. Even more alcohol (not me of course) before finding out way back through rural France in the early dusk evening. About 140 Km in him yesterday and not a hint of problems.

Fantastic day up here in Shetland. I've been out in the 2CV around the island of Unst this morning with the hood fully open. :-D

Jonathan,
saw this in today's paper and thought of you.

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfre ... es-commute
" Unsurprisingly, Shetland, where I accidentally went for my honeymoon, was one of the least
anxious places to live, with the highest levels of life satisfaction, self-worth and happiness.
That could be explained by the fact that there isn't anything or anyone there.
" and so on...

Wonder if there will be a response winging its way south at some point?

Hi Ken, it's not paradise, it has its fair share of social problems like anywhere else, but it's a close knit community and certainly here on the most northerly island in Britain most people wave hello as they drive past (still not used to that). I'll hold my hands up and admit that I've been feeling just a little homesick this last week and I'm hoping to head south for a week around the end of November.

The Unst bus shelter is just a mile down the road. A mile down the road in the other direction is currently the home of a Cape May Warbler that should have flown from the Great Lakes area of North America to the West Indies for winter but has ended up in Shetland. There're lots of twitchers up here at the moment, getting excited. Lol

Took the 2CV out earlier and headed to the shop. Was a nice morning so had the hood fully open, whilst in the shop (just a few minutes) a very heavy shower came over and the seats got a soaking!! :o

Fitted my grille muff for the first time this Autumn - a tad chilly first thing today. Didn't stop the usual carb icing for the first few miles, despite my sympathetic use of the throttle. Todays bloody cr@p petrol......

Will you be here for the Wye Knots' Christmas Meal? (Dec 6th) - 'Guest of Honour', furthest travelled, etc... ;)

and, more importantly, will you be in the 2CV?

For the first few miles?
That's not carburettor icing, that's either your choke not working properly or a weak mixture.
Has it been rejetted?

What is carb icing, I've never ever experienced it. Driving round Spa last year in the van it was -12 and then on the 4 hour drive home it was about 0, but still no icing... what causes it?

sam,
haven't got time this evening/morning for a detailed answer, but it's worth pointing out that at -12*C, the chances of carburettor icing are likely to be lower than they would be at 0*C .

Here's a starter, more later, but 'high humidity' and 'partial throttle opening' are a couple of key points... ;)
