Was picked up from London last night by my girlfriend's dad - he drives a VW Touran.

Had THE most uncomfortable 2 hour journey ever.

Yes - more uncomfortable than sailing off Cape de la Hage in 65mph winds.

Either my body has adjusted to 2cv standards of ride or the germans simply forgot to put a suspension in that model.

in most cars they do, only german cars I've been in with nice rides are BMWs and also on golf all others have been wank. (modern german cars)

Hard to see at that size, but the headline looks like a variation of Arial Bold, but with a "reading a". The body text looks like a variation of Arial too. This is a good place to check out fonts: http://www.fontshop.com/search/?q=Arial

thanks for the link to the fonts page :) I quite like looking at typography. My museum's also going through a re-branding process so its a useful thing to be interested in! That GS ad reminded me of 90s apple marketing too.

as for german cars - I'm sure they're amazing on well surfaced autobahns but on our sorry excuses for roads its just dreadful

More info for you: The Image logo that was used at the time was called "Citroen Headline" and was a bespoke font for exclusive use by the Citroen company. It was based on a font family called Futura, which is available, and on reflection looks rather suspiciously like the fonts used on that GS advert. http://www.fontshop.com/search/?q=futura&x=0&y=0
Hope this helps.

Don't make the mistake I did and download and install one of those '1000 free fonts' packages. :? I now have to wade through all kinds of samey crap to find a decent font!

Gulp, if you're still reading, :?* , with the style of book you are working on, I would agree with having each chapter a compete anecdote, even to the point that if a particular tale only requires 2 pages in which to tell it, then even that's not too short. If a couple of anecdotes run into one another, then there's no reason why the chapter shouldn't just continue to 'run' too. I, personally, like a mix of lengths.

And I think your idea of personally illustrating it is also a very good 'un. I don't mind books not having pics (bless) but, when they do have illustrations, I always look at them - closely, if justified. And the best place for them, imo, is on the page adjacent to the new chapter so's you can see how it refers. I guess a smaller sketch could live in the centre of a page with the chapter heading above it, and the tale beginning below. More detailed sketches would deserve a page of their own. I guess it should be one or the other. I don't like a 'picture section' in the middle of a book - having to keep referring to it is a pain.

What are your 'pen and ink' (pen or ink?) sketches like?! I can see that being more atmospheric bearing in mind the likely content of the book! Also cheaper to publish than colour...
