Post Re: Solexes
Hi - welcome to the Solex owners club - 3800 must be different to my 2200 as when I start I have full throttle all the time and to slow down I have to move the thumb throttle control to close the carb.. So you can ride along with no hand on the throttle and then move it for junctions. Very strange at first...

Whilst mine also had wide open throttle all the time but a cable from the front brake closed the throttle when the brake was applied. I think that was the standard set-up on most 3800's. However there are many many differences over the years and models.

Looks a nice one Dave.

Yes,you are both correct, the throttle is normally wide open, and when the front brake is applied,it closes it, :o ,very clever.
So,I have put some air in the tyres, they were a little flat, lifted the seat a bit,and played with the carb. Then I went for a ride.Total joy  ,goes really well,no issues.Must replace the front tyre as it is badly cracked.I will try and get some white wall's,if not, just plain black will do.

Dave,
so, what's next, now you've got the child-catcher wheels?

... His cycle looks more like the one ridden by the Wicked Witch of the West than a track racer’s sleek model. His pedaling speed is glacial. His attire is all black, with a decidedly nonaerodynamic helmet. But most remarked upon is his demeanor: absolutely expressionless.

He has been motor-pacing keirin races for 16 years.

Dave,
make sure you use the correct tyre on the front and it is running true when fitted. Hutchinson tyres are readily available on fr. eBay for about 17 euro each, cheap Vietamise tyres are also available but do not last as long. If you use a ribbed standard bike tyre the vibration will wreck the roller and also if the tyre is not running true i.e moving sideways it can also damage the roller and bearings Glad to hear it is running well,
Geoff.
