Was up and out in the 2CV at 4:30am this morning. I'm now onboard Northlink Ferries MV Hrossey heading for Shetland. The journey up was absolutely terrifying at times, especially on the motorways and exposed fast routes, the wind has been truly awful!! I've never known a trip in a 2CV to be so hair raising.

Ah, memories of going along the French coastal autoroute, in convoy with Will Waldron & Mark Dunmore, after a long delay due to SpeedFerries boat being too scared of the gales blowing. Will's Dyane changed lanes suddenly, then back again. Mark's 2cv did the same. In the Acadiane, we just braced ourselves for the wind hitting... If we hadn't had the warning, I think we'd have hit the central reservation. 40mph tops, with about 100 miles out of a tankful.

Picked up the keys to my new house in Shetland this morning and spent the afternoon fiddling about at the property. I bought an armchair from Ikea last week in anticipation of the completion of purchase, so extracted it from the backseat of the 2CV (through the open roof), and made myself comfortable.

Jonathan, you probably know this already, but according to studies you've just moved to the part of the UK where people feel happiest, and least anxious.
Hope you have a great time up there!
Alastair
BTW, it was you who put me on the I2cvF in the first place. I never thanked you. So, thank you!

Cheers guys, I'll do any job that comes along, provided it is nowhere near as stressful as my current job, and it pays better, too.

Get a trade. Plumbing. Electrician. Welder. Anything like that. You'll never be short of work!

I think in small communities, and when working on smallish jobs, it can be true. I have a few friends (one plumber, one sparky, and one welder) who are completely booked out with work, all word of mouth. The one thing they avoid is working with the big corporates (school builders, house builders) cos they get treated like shit, messed about, underpaid - and it stops them from building up client bases of their own.

The welder moans about working under cars for some reason, but other than that is quite a happy bunny.
