I think the Mrs is saving up for a bike like this. She's spent the last few years stocking up on the tyres.

My dad likes to say outrageous and controversial things to try and be funny and to see peoples reactions...

In the corner shop he struck up a conversation with the Indian lady behind the counter:

Dad: "I'm going to be a grandad again"
Shopkeeper: "oo congratulations! Isn't that lovely!"
Dad: "well I don't know really cos it's gonna be one of them foreigners"
SK: "what do you mean?"
Dad: "well, its gonna be Welsh!"
SK: (laughs) "oooo I thought you were going to say something racist!"
Dad: "Well... didn't I?"

He's got a point, hasn't he?

Absolutely. I see the news today is full of remarks made by Harriet Harmann, the self proclaimed champion of equality and author of our ridiculous thought crime/hate crime laws, referring to a person as a 'Red haired-ginger rodent'. :?

From a senior politician of a former government that made such a hoo-haa about equality, who not long ago were asking teachers to report primary school infants to the Police for incidences of verbal 'racism', this really takes the biscuit.

It boils down to the fact that if you say it to your mate in a pub then it's a criminal offence, and an outrageous affront to modern society. If they say it on TV, which is then spread before millions around the world it was merely a harmless comment. Of course this country's laws are fairly applied!

I nicked this photo out of Neils post elsewhere because I like it so much. I love to see proper public artwork like this around the place, and France seems to have it's fair share of murals and the like. I once drove around a roundabout in Normandy which was in the middle of nowhere, and yet it had several life size and beautiful stainless steel prancing horses on it!

More stuff spotted.

Old Nail, just watched the short film you linked to - "Bouncer".

It's not unlike what I expected, and I imagine it's also a good reflection of your experience in that job. Yes, I bet the camaraderie was there in spades, and genuine. And it's not a job that most of us would do - and I am speaking for myself there. But, like in - say - the military, you will also surely get your fair share of knuckleheads in there - those who do it because it excites and drives them; they relish if not the actual confrontation, at least the knowledge that they can protect themselves - and would get a rush out of having to prove it?

Is the image portrayed in that short film just a teeny bit romanticised? Really, how many of your fellow bouncers were like you or Geoff Thompson?

I really do hope you will feel like posting some of your own stories from that time - your tales are more than just entertainment (tho' they are certainly that) but they also offer an insight to something many of us would otherwise have little awareness of - other than facing these geezers at the door.

(And should you decide to, I personally think your 'Old Blue' thread would be a better place for it than the O/T thread as it's more your personal area.)
