Don't make it too pretty. Vans should be slightly battered.

What he said. It's a fine line between a shed and gorgeous patina, but it's a REALLY fine line between a bit of tidying-up and loosing that patina.

I agree, but my van is different. When I bought it,it have already been painted and repaired by a blind French person,

Looks great,but dont be fooled,

Check out the blue corrugated panel that has been riveted to the rusty floor.
So,i have no option but to make it all new and shiney. If the floors hadnt been shagged, and the French hadnt resprayed it,I would have left it as is.

So Trip, the moral of this story is,dont make it shiny, leave it as is,It looks the bollocks :D :P :D :P

Lots.
Stripped rear brakes as they've been honking like a donkey. Freed off adjusters etc. then fitted with new shoes and centralised them using the genuine tool somebody donated to my toolbox a few years ago. Also welded a rod from the back plate to the suspension arm on both sides. If they make a noise now then I think I may cry.
Fitted new front pads. Some proper old lockheed ones complete with lashings of old fashioned asbestos. These had wear indicator wires so I wired these into the fluid warning light circuit.
Removed pedal cluster. Stripped, cleaned and lubed here and there.
Fitted new master cylinder along with the freshened pedals then bled all the brakes.
Fitted a new exhaust crossbox.
Fitted a pair of them rubber Burton rocker cover gasket things.
Fitted one of them charge light things I bought off ebay a while back.

Finished off by stripping, cleaning and lubing the drivers door lock.

Busy old day really.

New stuff rocks! Glad that you're happy with your recent purchase

Took Hugo to Hereford for the Wye Knots meeting last night, even though I wasn't stopping long Had originally planned to take FredFocus to ease the 112mile round trip before my nightshift, but felt challenged by other club members to turn up in a 2CV...

So I did! :P

Had a great drive down - even managed a bit of Lane3 action - and enjoyed a good couple of hours chatting, including a great meal (as usual) but only just scraped into work in time (9:28pm for a 9:30 start)

Challenged by me....Who then turned up in the C4   If you and Jenny hadn't had been so certain that you were both turning up in something modern, I would have made the effort myself.

But the brakes back together - F$%k that is a tough job. Not sure if I made it hard or if it is the most fiddly job of all.

Spayed my wings and bonnet (slightly wrong colour but it will do for now) and quite pleased with the outcome. Put them back on the car and it looks good from the front. A little silly from the side.

Started engine - still works. :)

But brakes need a little adjusting.

I am knackered now.....
