worth £25 of anyones money Is that one of the benefits? I'd probably get my face slapped if I tried it.

Re: How many here are not 2CVGB members?
2CVGB has had my money for many years and will continue to do so because I am interested in 2CV's (in all forms), their history and other 2CVers' experiences and knowledge. Also, as an owner/driver (my only car) I have a vested interest in keeping these things around for a while yet. With my wife, I have attended many English and French (Inter)Nationals and world meetings. Probably nodded to many of you but don't inflict myself on anyone without invitation .... but equally always have beer/wine/tea/coffee/conversation for all who wish to visit our tent to pass some time! This has been an interesting thread - and it seems a shame that some should have taken various posts in a personal way! Don't you think it's a real shame that this is not being debated on the 2CVGB forum?? It might make a difference there! How about pasting the _whole_ thread into the next club magazine just to start a real debate? After all, the place to change anything is from within (IMHO). I really like reading this forum - and maybe don't contribute as often as I should! As far as I am concerned 2CVGB really ought to be (and I always thought it was) broad enough to accommodate everyone - shiny trailer queens to sheds to interestingly modified. Yes I find the magazine a little dull - but who am I to complain when I never write anything? Possibly thinking that nobody is interested in my thoughts ..... probably not realising that they may be. We all have a lot of common interests! Mart (°\=/°)

Bloody Hell!! 11 pages posted in less than 2 days, that was some marathon to get through Got quite heated in places, but I'm glad to see it's calmed down and people are appreciating each others views/points with balanced and constructive reasoning.......I think Quite happy to spend 6p a day, as mentioned, you save that and more on insurance I'm also very grateful to Laurence Broadhurst and Old-Goat(Simon Mackett) for dealing promptly and efficiently with my missing February copy of 2CVGB News. I e-mailed both on Monday evening and had a very quick (less than half hour later) response from Simon(mem-sec). Laurence e-mailed me yesterday morning to let me know a replacement copy was in the post and I received it through the door this morning Can't complain about that.

Sam, I can say from experience from other clubs that as a new, much younger editor, you will receive a lot of support from the membership, hopefully including those within your age group, in the form of interesting contributions and copy. If you can ride that 'wave' and keep it full and interesting, it should be a self-feeding thing. I also think (and I can't think of a polite way to say this, so I'm not going to bother!) that you have an 'old' enough personality, when you want to, to be able to relate to a huge cross-section of the membership. So go for it! As for Russ' comment about a bit about Spa, I can see no reason why a non-member shouldn't be allowed to contribute an article the magazine, if they want to. You just aren't likely to be sent a copy!

I know £25 is not a lot of money, but when your other half has been unemployed for six months and you're earning just enough to cover your fuel to work and your mortgage, there are plenty of other things you can find to do with what little spare money you have. It's not really for anyone else to say "well, it's only £25" after all. Fair point, well made - it's not really what I was trying to do, though. Of course people have to prioritise, financially. The point was more one of "Look at what you spend on 2cving a year - it's not a huge chunk of it. How much do you 'get out of' a single tank of juice?"

Re: How many here are not 2CVGB members?
I joined 2CVGB last year, out of a feeling of loyalty to an idea really. Also (and this is not something that fills me with pride, but it's the truth) I took out an FJ policy and the discount they offered for members meant that 2CVGB was essentially free, so joining became a no-brainer. Without the nudge from FJ, I probably wouldn't have joined, because I have learned so much about 2CVs from interactive-turorials and debates on i2cvf and felt little need for more input.
The 2CVGB magazine is largely irrelevant to me, although I'm a sucker for pictures of anything A-Series related, so I always leaf through it, and the website leaves me cold (it's a design thing: the large part of i2cvf's success for me is in the design, or "user-experience": it is so clear and pleasant to use, and encourages the liveliness of the posts). 2CVGB is not alone here: I'm also a member of a Ford forum, but the design of that site is dreadful, so I've given up going there.
Violetlobster's input to this thread has really helped me to see that 2CVGB has great possibilities, and to break down my impression of the club as being a bit fossilised. I look forward to the new website, particularly.
Quick question: would anyone miss the club magazine (in paper format) if it went digital (apart from the slight sadness of the passing-of-an-age and all that...)? Is the magazine irrelevant (& an unnecessary drain on resources) in the internet/mobile age?

Yes, I definitely would. Quote: Is the magazine irrelevant (& an unnecessary drain on resources) in the internet/mobile age? There's about 2,500 current members of 2cvgb. In the 4.5yrs the forum's been going, about 650 people have posted at least once, and another thousand have signed up but never posted. Assuming they're all still current members (not a safe assumption), that's half the club who've never joined the site, either because they don't have internet access, or because they're just not website people.
