Re: Toying with the idea of another A series
buy the dyane!
If only so I don't. Because the only other thing I will squander the cash on is supercharging the bmw bamboo.
And I know no one wants to see that happen.

Cor ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Barn-find-195 ... 19fb2a12ab A bit (alright, quite a lot) beyond my farcical and entirely nominal "budget", but I'll never have another chance to own something like this. Well worth losing the house for, in my opinion. Not sure what sort of a daily driver it would make though.

Re: Toying with the idea of another A series
425cc's aren't slow. I used one as an everyday car and took it on motorwàys etc, no problem. It pulled 65mph without much trouble and would cruise at 55. If you can live with a 602cc in the modern world you can live with a 425.

Re: Toying with the idea of another A series
100km/hr in a 425.... must have been a strong wind.
They are not slow when you are in them but then ask the line of cars behind you.
We potter about in ours but live quite rural and there is no way and it is even illegal to go on the motorway here with one (well they have minimum speeds and I am not confident a 425 will keep it up)
Then there is the indicator and brake lights - no modern driver will work it out before they rear end you. And you don't want to start buggering around with the light.
In the UK, do you have to put seat belts in a car that did not originally have them?

Pre 1967 cars do not have to have seat belts.

Re: Toying with the idea of another A series
I had no problems getting it up to and above 60mph, I did it every day on my way to and from work. They struggle up hills more but The queues behind me were no bigger or more frequent than when driving a 602, or any other little engined car. I'm not interested in other road users problems, if they're that desperate to get somewhere quickly they should leave home earlier!

Re: Toying with the idea of another A series
Just bought a battered old Dyane, which is surprisingly solid in all the right places and starts on the button every time. Pictures to follow when I pick it up, next weekend with any luck.

Welcome back! Look forward to seeing it. How long until the doors are removed, the wings cut away, the roof binned and the windcreen kicked out? Easier to flat-pack once the MoTs up, I guess!
