I think it'd be a good thing to have, what format should it take? A seperate forum in the tech section which users are free to add their own scans to?

Oi! Stop nicking my idea you lot

Yeah, I agree with the sub-forum within technical to house both a repository of diagrams etc and a bunch of read-only stickies with approved how-to's. To ensure that the images don't disappear over time, I'd think that attaching the pics as uploads instead of hot-linking them would be for the best.

But we digress - these are all thngs that can be arranged later. For now we need a concrete 'yes' from the folks in charge, and a backup of the attachments table to comb through first ;)

Have to admit, I'm glad the idea's meeting with approval :)

I think one need to be careful leaving the section open to debate. I think it may get choked with debate and it becomes a mess to navigate around to look for info. If possible maybe a locked section where uploads of tec stuff is allowed but no debate?

I also agree - the worst thing about some of the threads (not just here but all over the Internet) is the amount of digression that goes on :p

That's why I've been suggesting the area be read-only, and that even uploads are vetted before they go up. There would be nothing worse than someone uploading wrong information and everyone taking it as truth. Mistakes happen of course, but anything that can mitigate this is a good thing in my eyes. Another suggestion would be that all how-to's are uploaded in pdf format, so that the images are part of the document, reducing the risk of loss over time.

I know that this will involve people putting their own time in, but I really do think the end result would be worth it :)

Would this apply even where there's been a gross error spotted in the information uploaded?
Such as in this one in the 'suspension' thread, with apologies to Russell...
"More important is to ensure the long spring and rod are fitted towards the rear of the car."

Haha, I remember reading that before

I don't imagine anyone having a problem with there being a 'problems' thread or go-to person where people could point out mistakes and once verified, they could be corrected? How does that sound?
