Which do you think was worse? Posting the pics, or pop-riveting structural panels together?

Was it any different to various other pros posting pics of some of the bodges they've encountered? Should they have removed them, too?

The entire job is outright wrong it should be shown and debated. At the same time why is OK to write shit by people about ''us professionals'' and not OK for us professionals to write about people doing shit work?

I personally couldn't give a toss. It's be interesting to see a reasoned debate about the rights and wrongs of fixing stuff in 'the incorrect' fashion. There's never been a reasoned debate on this forum before however, and I'd struggle to imagine one breaking out now. But a man can surely be permitted to dream, dream! DREAM!!

Got to agree with that.
Don't know if it would pass the CT in France, but I'd doubt if it would be acceptable for an MOT test in the UK.
Also, won't it now cost more to take it all apart and weld it properly than if it had been done correctly in the first instance?

Mind you, I've just finished sorting out a 2CV which had got a full aluminium 'tray' inside the boot area, fashioned and pop rivetted in place by a 'Jaguar specialist' from the Leeds area.
All the original rusty metal was left in place, so some of the pop rivets were 'attached' to thin air, yet that has managed to pass more than a few MOT tests, albeit at a test centre close to the $ity... :roll:

So far, I've refused to take it to the test centre I normally use, as I'd probably be told to 'gtfo and don't bring it back until it's put right', or words to that effect. :lol:

I've T-boned an Astra at 30mph when it turned right at a crossroads with traffic-lights and it was my right of way. I'm still here, and so is the 2CV. I got out of the car, looked at the crumpled front wing, headlamp bar and bumper, scratched my head for a moment, and after pulling the bloody thing straight with my hands, drove home. They're a bit stronger than reputation suggests.

Any idiot can make a pigs ear of fixing sumat the right way the first time they try, if they just did it badly quietly showing them how to put it right is kind. If they did something outrageously wrong then it should be shown about to stop anyone else making the same 'blunder'.

I know a couple who rear-ended a stationary car at 50mph and they are still here, and still perfectly okay.

I'd doubt that those were stainless rivets, looked more like alloy to me and if that was the case, you wouldn't need to drill them out as a few 'well-salted' winters would see them off. :lol:

Also, it's all very well looking at the area covered by the 'primary' head, but what you've failed to take into account is how easily the 'secondary' head could be pulled through.
With 2 thin sheets being joined there should have been a backing washer fitted before each rivet was set.

That's only if you were putting together thin cladding on a caravan or trailer, pop rivets have no place around structural panels of a vehicle.
