 Re: MUFF !
Just been out to the garage and fitted the muff I made last winter, from the piece of hood material left over from fitting the rear window and always seemingly supplied with a new hood. I'll just grab a sandwich, then will get the 2CV out and go for a pootle down the Cotswolds.

 Re: MUFF !
I've refitted the muff I made last winter, but I've 'opened it out a bit more'. I was getting fuel evaporation after the engine was turned off for more than a few minutes, so the car was taking longer to start. I've tried this new 'improved' version and it seems to be working well.

 Re: MUFF !
I fitted a cardboard muff a few weeks ago to keep my engine warm. Sadly, the 2CV will go away for winter storage soon, because they spread fucking SALT in massive quantities all over the roads here to melt the snow and ice. I wish that 2CV's in just driveable condition were available here for a sensible price. But they're not, mine with it's collapsed frame and non-existent floors and sills cost more 2 years ago than a very nice and all running BX I bought recently. If it wasn't for that, I would probably use some trashed 2CV all year round. And it is brilliant to drive in snow, seems unable to get stuck in it. If it had some proper winter tyres, so that it would actually corner at all on snow, it would be even better.

 Re: MUFF !
been wondering about fitting a muff to the wife....'s car but worried about it getting too hot once the car has got going her average drive to work can end up taking an hour or so sometimes so it is sat in traffic for quite long periods - can it over heat at this time of year i've also put some car sponges in the open air vent cups to reduce the icy blast that comes in through the air vents as they appear not to be capable of closing any other winter motoring tips as she plans to use it every day we have tried a top half car cover to keep frost at bay but this morning it had frozen to the car as it was a bit damp from the day before have been looking for some kind of internal heater that will keep car the interior warm at night so as too speed up the morning de-frost.... we have even thought of running an extension cable over to the car so we can put a fan heater on whilst having breakfast.... mmmm porridge! most after market heaters seem to run off cigarette sockets and therefore the battery... two problems i can see - no socket and chances are battery going flat your top tips and no we don't have a garage

 Re: MUFF !
The grille muff should go on once the ambient temperature drops below 10*C and stay on until the temperature rises above 15*C. At tickover, an engine is only producing enough power to keep the engioe turning, so instead of 32bhp/23.5kW it may be making less than 0.5bhp/0.35kW, consequently there's very little chance of overheating. I use some bubble wrap rolled up and stuffed into a small plastic bag to seal those 'cold blast of air' vents. for the winter... Preheating the Dyane prior to take-off was one of my morning tasks whilst my wife was still at work; an extension lead to a fan heater parked on the front floor, about 10 minutes at 1kW setting for just above freezing, but the 2kW setting if it was sub-zero. Start the engine about 5 minutes before she was due to set off, otherwise the cold air coming in through the heater vents was cause for complaint. ken
