I *think* Kwikfit have a policy of not to charge for parts so if you provide your own it's just labour.

Kwikfits policy is to only fit parts they supply! In other words, you found a nice dodgy fitter who fitted your tyres and pocketed the cash. ;)

If you're fitting new tyres to new rims, buy yourself some new valves and fit the tyres yourself. It's childsplay-if I can't do them at work, I fit my own at home.

Here's one I came up with a four years ago, don't think I've posted it on here.......

When my right hand window catch broke trouble was I had three left handers in my spares box. At first I considered using one upside down... but no that just aint right!

Left and right catches use identical parts just put together in the opposite direction the only difference being the position of the peg holding the spring, I was going to just remove the spring of one and put it in the other, a little bit of jiggling with a small flat screwdriver on the front and middle of the spring, the peg popped out enough for me to remove it with some pliers and the spring just slid out.

Then it dawned on me it would be easy to drill a hole on the opposite side and turn the neat lefty into a righty.....hey cool! you can use whatever you have for whichever side!....only a little thing but it made my day! and I've never heard it suggested anywhere!

Perhaps it's not cost effective to make 'em two-hole Ambidextrous in the first place!

Took 2 new tyres and 2 wheels with old still fitted off my van into Stapletons (or whatever they're called now) ,while i had my bx tracked, know a bloke in there who used to work at my works-when he bothered to turn up,only lasted 3 weeks  -anyway they agreed he would do the tyres and balance them for a couple of quid in his hand, but when i went back to pick them up at lunchtime they'd put it on the bill with the tracking anyway, and when i looked at the balance weights they were stuck on with some pathetic non sticky double sided stuff and practically fell off before i'd even fitted them back on the van
Good job they don't really need balancing .. and good job i forgot to leave him a tip

Getting a bit fumy in the cab but haven't had a chance to sort the heads due to being away or whatever? Slide the heat control rod over to floor only and shove a tennis ball in each of the two orifices down by the pedals.

Although they may also inform you that your brakes and shocks are knackered too??????

I once had the misfortune of having to use a Kwikfit once (I was still working for them at the time, albeit at a branch 200 miles away) when I had a puncture and being told that I needed new rear shocks and brake pads and they could do them that day.

Very helpful you may think? He told me my shocks were leaking and while the front wheel was off, he'd noticed the front pads were down to metal...........

It was a GSA!

EDIT: It's dawned on me that there may be a few people on here that don't know what a GSA is or anything about them? So, for those of you that don't know http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_GS

KwikFit are some outfit eh?
Vicki took a bog standard 306D in for its first MOT had to go there as its a lease car.
dropped off at 8am told them she was a teacher and would pick up at 4

I took her in on way back from work. I sat in van while they fawned all over her and gave her the run around - car had failed etc come back tomorrow!
No happy!

Car was still up on ramps and some monkey was making a big deal of how bad the front brakes were, the explanation for not being ready was that they had to order a full exhaust system, it was special order as it was unusual-(Pug 306D?)! and that they were having to replace the disks which was incredibly difficult

I told them it was 5 mins top per side to swivel up a caliper and swap the disk asked what was wrong with the exhaust( and cat?) " it was broke"..."show me" one tiny little bracket on the back box had broke.I points at the welder why not just weld it back on? "not allowed, too tricky, not permitted for MOT regs etc"

at which point it started to get a bit testosteroney

Big brake monkey came over and started "What the F##k do you know?" routine
"well for a start....."
Vicki cool as a cucumber just laughed and said "he's a race mechanic on saloon cars"( which is true - a 2cv IS a saloon car!)

silence...

low and behold an exhaust was found and the brakes took 10 mins
A letter was sent to lease company complaining of attitude of chosen MOT station and advised to not pay for exhaust and to question why the most expensive tyres fitted when OE standard Mic energys were £32 etc we never got charged for MOT or for the service items!
Sean

so top tip is avoid KrapFit like the plague!

I'm lucky with our local - the manager's an ex pupil of my dad's and I don't mind a tenner in their tea pot if they can swap tyres over while I'm at work.

 this is true - I'm a bit of a newbie, but in the last year I've changed my kingpins, changed the oil (big step), done knife edges, so I'm getting there :) At least I know where my voltage regulator is *cough* George *cough*
