I don't know a lot about vehicle electrics, but I'd have thought your problems are more likely to stem from the way you've wired the fag lighter socket up than from your charger or your mememephone. Especially if the wire you've used is too thick. I once wired a towbar socket up using thick wire and all the current for my rear lights basically dribbled out of the socket onto the road.

 Re: charging question
ahh.. the wire ive used is pretty thick.. so i may re wire it with thin wire, to the sweitch, and then just leave the wire fron the switch to fag lighter thing thick (save hastle!)
i may get one of those heater things... they look cool. but i want one thatcould run for like half an hour and not melt!!

 Re: charging question
Check the earth wiring on your socket as well. As others have said, check the voltage at the battery, but also check the voltage at the lighter socket. The two should be the same.
I wouldn't even want to be thinking about an electric heater until I'd got the socketsorted by the way. Otherwise I think the *heater* melting might be the least of your problems! Also bear in mind that that thing is rated at 150W, I think a standard headlamp bulb is about 50W...

 Re: charging question
im more than likely not to get one, i just like the thort of it!!
and yes i am going to look at the earth, as its a short eath lead to the body of the car as close to the socket as poss....
i thought that thicker wire would make it better, as more current can travel down it???
i will check voltage in a min... with car running or without it running??

 Re: charging question
Just plug in a new voltage regulator, mine plays up like a bitch, hence I'm buying a new one payday, I don't currently use a cd player, or anything electrical ATM, but when I finish work at ten some nights my headlights dip when I break, I know it's either the regulator or a bit of dodgy break wire I havnt found, just hope I don't have to completely rewire the breaks! Sorry for hijacking the thread...

 Re: charging question
I'm surprised that you haven't broken it, with all this talk about brakes. ken ( On the other hand, since James started this thread, maybe English 'as she is spoken' is mandatory. ) rebel2cv wrote: Sorry for hijacking the thread...
