I drove Stelvio up and down in more than one occasion and it is really great! I'll see if I can find picts. One time I had three Australian children in my car who had never seen snow before. Their first snowballfight was on the Stelvio.

I rode up Stelvio a couple of years ago on my Pan European with the wifey on the back, very daunting on such a heavy bike. I was taking the right handers wider and wider because of the lack of vision around the bends until the obvious happened and an oncoming bus caught us out. She had to pop off so I could get around the bend. All the hairpins - there are about 50 - are numbered so it was with great relief to finally see No1.

I also rode Grossglockner (2575m) and Timmels Joch (2509m) last year, and Mount Evans (Colorado)(14,260ft) and Pike's Peak (14,130ft) in 2006, and Col du Tourmalet (6935ft) in 2007.

I like high passes.

Not done the Stelvio, but we did CH-I via (Simplon?) on the way to the Greek WM, and I/F via the Petit St Bernard coming back. We've also been over Mt Ventoux (Sault F National) and the Trollstigen (Swedish WM) - all in A-series, bien sur.

I think Towne Pass, climbing out of Death Valley to Panamint Springs and into California, is the only actual pass we did in the US - although there were some very serious climbs in New Mexico... (in a 2cv)

Love those hairpin bends, I was watching some like that on the Tour-de-France highlights this evening.
