DVLA's Worcester office? Doesn't surprise me in the slightest, Worcester people are a weird bunch

Post Re: Importation / Registration Question
Adding to this thread on importing a vehicle I was wondering about the form that requires you to state if there have been side indicators/RHD headlights//rear seatbelts/MPH speedo fitted to the car you are importing.

Basically I am importing a 1979 Piggy Visa from Belgium and it has no rear seat belts, no side indicators and obviously the speedo is in KPH.

Please tell me I don't have to retro fit belts and indicators.. they weren't standard. Anyone had experience with this? Also do I need a KPH sticker for speedo if they call the car in for inspection.

Or can I ignore that form and not worry about it?

(Car has just passed MOT)

Cheers
Ru

I would think if the car has passed the MOT, there's your questions answered..

If it's just passed it's MOT, then you'll be fine. The DVLA won't be bothered about repeater lamps & rear belts - all they're concerned about is that the VIN number matches what you've put down on the form!

Did you get the Belgian log book? If so then i doubt you'll get called up for an 'inspection'. Obviously that's not always the case! When i took the Acad documentation to Truro i was told that it was 99% certain that the van would get called in (i kept quiet about having the carte gris & just had a dating letter from Pete Abbot- i wanted to retain the Frog book) - as soon as i whipped it out of the folder i was told that there would be a 99% chance it wouldn't get called up.

This would be great.. but its just not very clear on the paperwork.

I do have the original log book so by the sounds of things I have a better chance of an easier ride.

Am I right in thinking the DVLA will want to keep the original Belgian log book? I'd really want to keep it with the car's history etc

Yes, that was part of the reason i wanted to keep my Frog book. They'll forward it on to teh Belgian DVLA where they'll amend their records accordingly.

TBH, if you office isn't too far away i'd go with the dating letter & see if they call it up. You may be lucky & slip the net, but if it does get called in it isn't anything to fret about. I'm not sure how long the process takes if they do require to see it - you'll get date & a time & if it's anything like Truro, you'll park in the car park & one of the 'inspectors' will come out, have a quick look & that'll be it!

Speedo not testable.
Rear belts only needed post-1/4/87
Side indicators only needed post-1/4/86

There y'go, then.

As for the Belgian paperwork, you were only given a photocopy of it, remember?
