It's not about being able to offer the cheapest quote, it's the package they offer. I'm paying £99 a year & that's fully comprehensive cover, UNLIMITED mileage, agreed value of £6,000, includes travel insurance, UK & international breakdown cover, etc. The service they provide is superb in my opinion. It's piece of mind when you're travelling abroad; I'm pretty sure they got Gary Dicks' Dyane back from Italy after his brakes failed - they provided him with a courtesy car too. Russ will tell you that they're value for money - he's called them out more in a 6 month period than most people would in an entire lifetime! I'd rather pay a few pounds more & be safe in the knowledge i'm well covered & if something should happen to my 2cv i can get home, or, i'll actually receive what my 2cvs worth, giving me the chance to be able to afford to replace it, and not 'book price'!

 Re: Insurance
I agree with everything both Neil and GJ have said.
I'm on unlimited milage, full EU recovery, agreed value of £5000 and I'm paying £460.53
Again, that sounds like a lot, but that's with the policy in my name and the car registered with me as the legal owner and keeper.
When I first had the car I was down as a second driver on my dad's policy with him as the legal owner, I think we paid £220 with Churchill for that. They were fantastic when the car was written off, but after that I realised that agreed value was the way to go.

 Re: Insurance
Footman James are good for us price wise, I have yet to use their claims service though. Hopefully (touchwood) I won't have to. As an aside, how much do you think I should insure the acadiane for on agreed value? It is all original and in very good condition, not concourse, a few rust spots here and there which will be sorted, any ideas?

 Re: Insurance
I've been with Footman James for several years now. With the 2CVGB member discount my premium for this year's about £120 - that is in total, for all 5 cars, as I have a multi-vehicle policy with them, so all the cars are one the 1 policy. Unlimted mileage, agreed value, breakdown cover (which I've used once, and was good). The one time I've claimed off them (when somebody drove into the side of the Mehari), they settled the claim quickly, and I got the money I asked for.

As far as I know, agreed value and premium aren't related, so why not ask for £4000? As long as you get it signed off by a 2cvGB registrar.

 Re: Insurance
sorry sam, the post was perhaps not clear. I know the premium is not related to value I was after a valuation of the van never owning one before so you reckon £4000? cheers

 Re: Insurance
Different strokes for different folks I guess. I've had a bad experience with a 'big name' insurer who was totally useless and unable to sort out a very simple claim, so now I just go with the cheapest I can get every year for all of my cars. I figure if you can get shafted by a well known "Quality" insurer you might as well take your chances and go with whoever. I use Money Saving Expert's method http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insura ... -insurance which tells you how to harness the comparison sites in order and then look for cashback deals. Only takes a short while to do. Last year my 2cv was about £60, the Mrs' Honda Civic was £70 I think and the smart also well under £100. All fully comp / protected No Claims etc of course. The record on that website for users has just gone down from £14 a year to now 96p for one year's fully comp insurance. If its more important to you that you have an agreed value and extras like breakdown its a different story I guess, but with my experiences and already having breakdown cover I wouldn't trust any insurer agreed value or not so just go with the cheapest.

 Re: Insurance
I'm with FJ, as I've already mentioned, but the one thing I'm scratching my head over is this....Most of you seem to be paying around £100-£120, but this year I'm paying just over £190! Why? I've got over 16yrs no-claims and I'm not too far off 40 plus the 2cv is garaged every night!! Seems like I'm being RIP-OFF, as usual

I don't think NCB comes into it when you're dealing with classic car policies.
