Post Re: roof / hood
Snowy

I have a 1988 Special in Blanc Meije too and the car came with what I presume is an old Wendy's roof in blue and white stripes. The roof must be getting on now and has been patched in places. It's been in a workshop since I bought her in June but if the roof proves to be leaky, I'm also interested in getting a decent roof. The Matts Roofs look the business and are very good quality. I looked at lots of them on the London-to-Brighton Run but I can see that light colours would get dirty very quickly.

I'm still undecided but I'm going to see first if my old roof leaks before splashing out £150-ish on another roof. A number of new roofs appear on ebay for about that price. Whether they are ECAS roofs, I've no idea.

I ended up getting one from that citroen place in glasgow that sometimes has them on ebay. I phoned, applied a bit of haggling, and managed to extract one for £95 as they had one which had some slightly darker marks on it from the factory (only visible up very close though).

So far as I can tell it is just like the old one, but without holes, and in generally a far far nicer condition. The holes for the rear studs were in the wrong place by about two centimeters, and it did get a small tear on each side resulting from this as I installed it. Moving the studs a centimeter down got the tension even for me, this shouldn't be a problem if you think more as you put it on.

That sounds as if it'd been on a car and removed because of the marks - new hoods don't have the screwholes for the straps, precisely because they're rarely in the same place on two different cars...
