Post Gear reduction idea!
I've been dreaming again...
How to create a low range gear reduction in a 2cv.
Using an LNA gearbox (GS type) you need to use 'spacers' as, surprisingly, the 2cv gearbox is wider than the LNA.

What if you replaced the spacers with a planetary gear hub, like seen in automatic transmissions?

The hubs would need to be lockable, which would be regular driving, then you could unlock them to give the gear reduction.
Genius or goose?

The further you go from the input shaft, the more is torque multiplied, so you'd need pretty impressive gears to cope with another reduction. And they could get quite hot without a proper volume oil bath. You'd need to anchor the planet carrier to the body for gear reduction, and then unlock it and lock the 3 pieces together for direct drive, or unlock the driveshaft from the annular gear and use some kind of dog clutch between the sun gear and driveshaft. Anyway you do it, you need 2 clutches for each unit.
But I like the idea :)

Citroen C35 and similar had this as standard (reduction at the outputshaft of the gearbox.)

It is a DS gearbox with reductions 'glued' on...

Wow, nice LPGO, my idea is "simpler' I think.
Image
Apart from machining a case with seals and adapters with self contained oil bath and locking pins, etc... :geek:
The Sun gear would be attached to the output shaft, and the Ring gear to the drive shaft.
When they are free I provides the gear reduction.
BUT I SEE A HUGE FLOOR!
I would be driving backwards!? as the Ring and Sun gears are turning in opposition... Back to the drawing board.

Solved by turning over the diff in the gearbox (assuming we are talking about a 2cv gearbox)
Just like the rear box for the 2cv Sahara

I don't fancy flipping the crown wheel everytime I want to engage low range!
