Is the taper a Morse taper?

How can I measure it accurately?

A Morse taper looks to have a shallower slope than what's found on ball joints, which seem to be more in the 6* to almost 10* range with 7.15* being one of the most common.

Guess you'll be adding one of these to your shopping list? ;)

Hi Guys,

Results so far...

1. Took Picture
2. Imported image in to QCAD.
3. Drew lines on edges.
4. Used "Angle between two Lines" to measure angle.
5. Result = 3.56Deg.
6. Not a morse taper (No susprise there)
7. Could a CNC mill be used to measure this ???

Peter,
have you taken into account that it's only that part of the pin which fits into the track rod which is tapered, with the majority of the shank having a uniform diameter?
A (very) quick check with a set of calipers suggests that the included angle of the tapered section might be closer to 6*.
Isn't it going to be nigh on impossible to create a hole into which that pin would fit unless the part was built up from discrete sections? :?

Hi Ken,
Realise the shank near the ball is Parallel, the angle was measured with reference to this.
Also I will try with digital caliers and some trig.
My measurements .......small end of the taper is 11.85mm Large end 12.93 Length 12.32mm.
The idea is to use this part with a fabricated steering arm and a slightly modified track-rod end.
Potentially cheaper than a rod end and also uses Citroen parts
But as you suggest, discreet sections make it more complex to construct......................
