Post Re: Make Your Own ....2CV.... 4x4
I was thinking something like that..:

Gears from 652 Visa to GS 5-speed case with 5-speed pinion and differential. Modify 5th gear selectror fork to operate rear wheel connect/disconnect. Removed the upper 5th gear. So the prop shaft will go under steering tube, and inside of frame. And with use of three gear, there can use same C/P -ratio at rear diff what is at front diff, I couldn't find any combination to have same ratio if there is used only two gears (from 2cv, Visa or GS)...

That is a clever solution, that allows disconnection of the rear drive.

With a Gs visa Lna gearbox you never can make low gearing (or am I wrong???) With my solution (2cv front gearbox) you can.. Taking the rear pinions out, taking power from the upper shaft out, put it through a transferbox (you alraedy have) and go back to the lower shaft back into the gearbox. Now you have 3 gears high and low gearing at front and back. Yu need to use your newmod. gearbox at the rear then...

Front box with diff and shafts could be made from 2CV gearbox or GS.
Rear Diff could be made from a 2CV box or GS.

The remote 4 speed box made from GS 5 speed box, however this could be made from a 2CV box if there is a reliable method of putting an output flange on the pinion??

Pete: You could also have 1-2-3 -speeds on "first gearbox", if you want. And about flange to pinion shaft, maybe the best way is to shorten the case like you did on your diff case..?

Geo: Those photos what I put, is thinking of my 4x4 "next solution", tried to explain but words wasn't enough so photos tell more. And all started from my question to Pete, "does he have those 5th gears to sell for me", I have one pair but need of another pair...

Hmm, maybe I should post them to my topic..? :roll:

@Jasu 3 more gears :shock: and post stuff to keep the forum busy...

Re GS gearboxes.
Now RARE in the UK, as some BMW engined A series are using them.
Still some in France @ €100 upwards :(

Re Gear Ratios with Current Setup
Main box GS (not LN ratios) and modified TBox (RockLobster in the Suzuki camp).

HI Range
1st = very low crawler gear
2nd = 1st
3rd = 2nd
4th = 3rd

LOW Range
All gears LOWER again, need steep terrain to evaluate.

Very unhappy chap today, as the Y Axis screw/control on the milling machine has JAMMED solid.
Without the mill can't machine any of the difficult gearbox parts etc :( :( :(
